Microsoft drops bid to acquire Yahoo

Microsoft Corp. on Saturday yanked a $42-billion takeover offer for Yahoo Inc. that would have reordered the landscape of the Web after the companies failed to agree on how much the Internet pioneer was worth.

Do Chicago Tribune business reporters take the weekend off?

This is a pretty big news story, so was it really necessary for the Tribune to lift a story from its sister publication instead of having a Tribune staffer write it? Is the Tribune THAT desperate for money that they let their own staff go.

This is one of the reasons I subscribe to the New York Times: Rarely do they ever run & byline other papers' writing for any articles, and the articles seem erudite and well written.

I guess the Tribune was too busy hiring a freelance writer for that other major story of the day: "Why it's not good to lie on resumes." REAL reporting Tribune! No wonder why you guys only win one, maybe two Pulitzers a decade for writing.
