Just installed Libreoffice Write and Impress and i found them good alternatives to paid microsoft stuff. Less features perhaps, but they're still good, they handle .docx and .pptx and .pdf docs, all for free and under 300 mb download. Viva open source!

I used OpenOffice for quite some time. It was great for converting from Microsloth to other formats.
I could format a complex document in OO, save it and then load it into WordPefect for final editing and printing. From WordPerfect I could save in PDF or Microsloth format and send to a commercial printing firm for thousands of copies. The auto plant I worked in at the time really appreciated that ability.

When Ubuntu went to Libre I went back to my WordPerfect exclusively. I prefer the PDf handling and once I brushed up on Oracle, I found it more suited to my needs.

Had Apache not taken over OpenOffice, I might still be using it.

Obviously, I've used both Linux and Windows.

No way, I won't pay Microsoft any more.
