Microsoft drops Yahoo bid

Microsoft Corp. on Saturday yanked a $42 billion takeover offer for Yahoo Inc. that would have reordered the landscape of the Web after the companies failed to agree how much the Internet pioneer was worth.

The mail problem for Yahoo is technology not just business strategy as many may be led to believe. It is easy for any company to become successful without any competitors and Yahoo did well in the 90s. But when faced with competition from Google its shallow technology came out in the open and turned away users. But Yahoo! continues to live in denial. The smartest Yahooligans have long deserted Yahoo! as early as 2005. It has been failing to attract good talent for the last 4 years and that explains its problem. The truth is Microsoft can buy 100 good Web2.0 startups with much better technology than this useless deal.

Breath a sigh of relief. Microsoft has never bought a company and then kept it alive to help growth. Microsoft doesn't have the skill to use acquisitions to grow - instead killing them after takeover by forcing conformance. That's the last thing a competitor to Google needs today, and it's better for all of us that Yahoo! be allowed to compete - the game is not over in on-line advertising and we need more competitors not fewer.
