Hmmmm... sounds like a scam to me. From the article "Baniel trains others in the Baniel Method, so they can run studios of their own.(It takes two years of training to become a basic practitioner. A new segment begins in July.)". Also from the article "A noted cellist who felt pain in his shoulder was told to play "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star" - first as he would normally play it, then four times "badly," with atypical mistakes. Afterward, he played normally again, and the pain in his shoulder had gone.". If the cellist is 'noted', why not name the cellist. Yep - its a scam!!! Thanks IJ for the hard-nosed journalism. Is it any wonder print journalism is dying?

Don't fall for these scams! Does she know anything about this?

Did she graduate from medical school? There's your answer!

Another person who thinks they can make a living like this. Go to medical school if you want to do this.

This is not a scam. I know that Anat Baniel has helped thousands of men, women and children to feel better. She sees children with extreme neurological problems in her center and has great results. She helps adults reduce pain, feel better and happier. I think both commenters above should do a little research before they comment. Anat Baniel is the real deal and Gwen, your comment implying that medical school is the only place a person can learn to heal people is weak. Just ask the parents of the children who have been treated at the Anat Baniel Center. Just ask the thousands of people who live without or with reduced pain because of Anat Baniel.

Thank you Betty for your wonderful endorsement. I started working in the office at the Anat Baniel Center about 6 months ago. One day, after dropping off his passenger at the ABM Center, the driver of a young boy who was in a wheelchair came into the center and said he had to know what was going on here because he sees these kids come in one way, and they go home another. The driver stayed and asked us questions until his passenger was ready to go home. I see and hear about the wonderful work that Anat Baniel and the practitioners do at the ABM Center and encourage the cynics who commented above, to check out the website and try a few of the free exercises. Anat Baniel's work is supported by science and is endorsed by the leading neuroscientist in Brain Plasticity, Dr. Michael Merzenich.

I DID go to Medical school (Cambridge University and Edinburgh University Medical School) and I came from the UK to study with Anat. Although I had experienced Anat's work in my own body, I too was skeptical when I first discovered the extraordinary results of her work with chldren with meuro developmental issues see . My perception now is not just that she is genuine but that she knows more about pain relief and human function than anyone in the field of therapy and rehabilitation whom I have ever encountered. Her knowledge and skill in making the seemingly impossible possible, especially for the children, is matched only by her passion in imparting her knowledge by training others, among them many PT's, OT's and even MDs. I recommend your being curious about exploring what is on your doorstep...many people fly from across the globe to see her and her practitioners! All the special needs children and their parents in the world will thank you.

And I thought people in Marin County were supposed to be so open-minded!

As a parent of a child with special needs, I have researched traditional and non-traditional therapies and treatments for over 10 years and I have yet to find someone with the skill, knowledge and talent of Anat Baniel. My son would not be where he is today without her.

The work is intricate and different from anything else, so it is difficult for people to understand if they have never experienced it. It's unfortunate that people would choose write this work off as a "scam" rather than entertain the possibility that Anat's work has immeasurable value.

P.S. Anat proved MANY MDs wrong in their assessment of my son and his potential, so don't be so quick to put all of your faith in that group (who, by the way, offered my son nothing in the way of treatment)!

This is not a scam. I too am a parent of a child who Anat helped when all the doctors didn’t have an answer or treatment of why my daughter was experiencing excruciating pain in her knee. It was 5 years ago, my then 11 year old daughter has all of a sudden been stricken with pain in her knee. We took her to the emergency room, and after a check-up and x-rays there really wasn’t an explanation of what was causing the pain. For the next few weeks these episodes occurred again, and the only resolution was to put her in a brace. We started in a knee brace, and a few weeks later she was wearing a full leg brace most of the day. X-rays and tests showed nothing, physical therapy made no difference. We were becoming quite concerned as it was impossible to have such pain and no reason for it.
It was at this time, that I actually went for a job interview with Anat, and as I had no care for my daughter, I took her a long with me. Although my daughter was not wearing her brace that day, the minute we walked in Anat has asked what was happening with the child as she seemed to be in pain. I explained the situation. Long story short, I brought my daughter for one lesson with Anat, and then 3 more weeks of 3 lessons a week with one of her practitioners. The pain has stopped within the first couple of lessons, and the brace came off.
I have since been working for Anat and see so many kids that she has helped where all other “traditional” therapies have yielded no results. This method is amazing, and by all means not a scam. By the way, the only thing to get me through my extreme lower back pain while pregnant was this method.
You should try the exercises on the web site and see for yourself. You will feel wonderful.

I graduated from Physical therapy school in 1981 and became interested in the Feldenkrais Method several years later as a way to alleviate chronic back pain. I realized the benefits of this work not only for myself but for my clients as well.
I attended 3 workshops Anat Baniel gave on the Feldenkrais Method in the mid 1980's. After the first one I could not wait to train in her work. I was trained as a Feldenkrais Practitioner by Anat in 1991 and have continued my studies with her over the years. Most rececntly becoming certified in the Anat Baniel Method for Children, The ABM for Vitality and Anti-aging and in the ABM for High Performers.
I continue to study with her because her work with children with severe limitations is truly miraculous. Children that many traditional medical people have no hope for can be helped by this method.
Anat is an amazing teacher and a miraculous practitioner. To call her work a scam is truly a crime. She has helped countless children whom no one had any hope for, and has trained hundreds of practioner's to do the same.
