More than 200 miners who were not rehired after Massey Energy bought a bankrupt West Virginia mine have settled an age discrimination lawsuit against the Richmond, Va.-based coal producer for $8.75 million.

Let's do the math: 82 miners get $38K (that's $3.1M) and the rest get $19K (that's $2.8M)....that means the remainder (about $2.8M) goes to the lawyers....
This cost of *not* producing coal will be passed on to Massey's customers (mostly electrical utilities who purchase coal), who in turn will pass that cost on to electricity customers....namely you and me....
I hope it keeps you warm at night, knowing that your money is being paid out to people who have not produced a single BTU for the $8,75M spent....

Those miners were very productive when they were working. Massey put out the propaganda that they could not find qualified coal miners. These coal miners had worked for years for a mismanaged company. It was not their fault that management did not know how to run a coal company. If Massey treated their people fairly, they would not have to fear the union.
