Medtronic chief has a rocky tenure

Full story: TwinCities.com

Our big opportunity is to change the way we think of ourselves from a pure-play medical device company to really a company that is extremely well positioned to impact a number of important chronic diseases, Medtronic CEO Bill Hawkins said earlier this month.

I am surprised to see no mention that after Bill Hawkins had eliminated over 3000 jobs and took away everyone elses raises, then turned around and gave himself a 26% pay increase. Don't beleive me, look it up.

To say billing MDT for watching a surgery is appropriate is very wrong. This is called double dipping. Getting paid twice for the same thing. Unethical for sure.

"When you're implanting devices, you have failures," he said. "When they do happen, you want to make sure that the company is responsible and dealing with it the right way. And I think we did."

Yes, they did. They went all the way to the Supreme Court with Reigel v. Medtroinic. The Supreme Court ruled that no one could sue medical device manufacturers when the politically influenced FDA approves the design. The only option left open is if their is a manufacturing defect. Unfortunately, many judges have not even been allowing discovery. The sprint Fidelis case was thrown out.

Yes, Medtronic was responsible in dealing with.

Amazing that he thinks they did the right thing with Fidelis. The Star Tribune ran an article about the problems with that lead a few months before they finally recalled it. They could have saved tens of thousands of patients from this lead if they had admitted the problem rather than blame physicians.

People need to take action to get the Medical Device Safety Act of 2009 passed to stop corporate immunity. Republicans and the Chamber does not want tort reform they want corporate immunity.
