Ok, they might do it different in Australia. McD's does seem to concentrate more on quality in other countries than in America. Here, I think they believe their position is too secure. And they may be right! I personally intend never to eat at the local McD's again, and furthermore I intend to convince as many people as possible to follow my example. Eat REAL food - DON'T EAT AT MCDONALD'S!

My only challenge to your post, Gene, would be to define "real" food. Is there anything artificial about McDonald's food? If so, what? How is it any worse than the other heavily processed foods you would find in say, a supermarket? Have you ever read the content labels on pre-made food items? How do you substantiate your claim of "real" food vs. McDonald's food when it is essentially all the same?

Right now I'm at this site b/c they opened a new McDonalds across the street from my apartment last week, and I can't sleep b/c every time I doze off, I hear "May I take your order?" etc. The damn drive-thru is facing my windows. I hate McDonalds. The world - and my neighborhood - would be so much better off without it. McFat, McGrease, McSlaughterhouse, McDonalds.

My reply to JHM -

Thanks for your courteous and well-written post! Your first challenge was unspoken, whether you realized it or not, the challenge to be an adult about this whole thing.

My use of the term "REAL food" was poetic, not literal. Of course I realize that McD's food is as "real" as the preprocessed equivelant in the grocery store. However, the actual quality is certainly NOT the same. I have read confirmed documentation that McD's purchases the cheapest and lowest quality meat they can find, and then stuffs it with fillers. McD's meat is only real by the vaguest of standards. It CONTAINS real meat, and that's about the best you can say about it.

The patties, I know for sure as a previous employee (2002 to be exact), are NOT 100% beef as they claim. I fried those patties and saw large green and brown flakes imbedded in the pink that could not possibly have been meat, and were too large to be spices. It all turned brown on the grill, so the customer never knew the difference.

Do I believe McDonald's is deliberately poisoning the public? No. Do I believe McDonald's has totally disregarded integrity and responsibility in an all-out effort to make money? ABSOLUTELY. They've come a long way since that little burger stand that started it all, and the general direction has been down, not up.

So with that in mind, I can say with conviction - Eat REAL food - DON'T EAT AT MCDONALD'S!

Gene.

McDonalds do use 100% real beef patties.

I have friends that live out West, who actually own properties which the cattle that McDonalds use are bred. The beef patties use the same mince that is sold in our supermarkets. The only thing they add is salt and pepper when cooking.

There are a million rumours about McDonald, and I believed most of them until I actually worked there when I was in high school, and was able to sort fact from fiction. Its really not as bad as you read on the internet.. or the lastest McDonald's horror story.

I'm not sure about America, but here in Australia they certainly do not exploit their workers. True, they do pay the minimal wage, but it is the same wage you would get at age 15 working with no qualifications in hospitality. True, its also easy to be employeed by McDonalds (and they pretty much take on anyone) but its also easy to be fired.

Their training program is the best I've ever been through (until my recent employment as Cabin Crew with Virgin Blue Airlines) they teach you everything, from safty to customer service to cleaning using the right mop stroke!! You are also assessed randomly throughout your employment. Other employers also acknowledge that previous employees of McDonalds have been through this intense training program, and often hire them, knowing that they have worked somewhere where attention to detail and customer service are very important factors.

Back to the actual food.

There is NO obligation to serve a customer something that isnt actually on the menu. It is their decision to eat there. It is only because of the focus on customer service that they do make orders without onions, extra sauce, no lettuce.. whatever!

In reality, these orders are an interferance with the normal operation of the store. Therefore, they will take extra time. Also, making "special" orders stuffs up the general streamline process of other normal burgers being made.

If everyone asked for their burgers to be made to their liking...imagine how long it would take! I doubt anyone would even come to the store, because McDonalds is FAST FOOD! They dont claim to be anything else. In Resaurants you get better service, because they have the time. Give them as many customers as what walks through the doors of any McDonalds store in one day, and they would be screwed.

As for whats actually in the food... All wrappers now have the ingredients and nutrional value printed on them here (in Australia) so there are no secrets. Its also available on their website. When I worked there, I was also surprised to find that a lot of the products they used (espcially in the Deli choices) were brands that could be bought at any supermarket.

There is so much more I could talk about... most is mainly because I know how strict their policies are. i.e. burgers are thrown out if not sold in 10 mins... as with frys and coffee. oh and im not even going to mention the cleaning procedures, I think i spent more time cleaning than anything else.

Just before I finish, I'd just like to note how unnecessary it is for anyone to resort to insulting someone based on their opinion. keep it clean, the kid is only 14, and yet he probably knows a lot more about the ins and outs of McDonalds then someone who has never been employeed by them and appreciated the chance to kick start their career, by learning the values needed for any ongoing employment.

Stop picking faults. If you believe stuff you've heard, its simple - Dont eat there! Make your own burger.

Thanks,
Courtney

Well seriously, stop the complaining, I am a McDonald's employee and I am tired of customers coming up and saying "You left the pickles on my burger", well, you need to get a damn life and use your hands and pick up the pickle. And duh, eating mcdonald's 3 times a day, 7 days a week will make you fat. People also complain about "employees lying about ingredients", well, we don't know the god damn ingredients! The stuff comes boxed and frozen, we don't make the fries on the spot! Seriously, stop your god damn complaining, if you don't like mcdonalds, or complain about mcdonalds, then just stop eating the food. I truly don't care. I'm 14 and this is the only job I can get, and it wouldn't be so bad if customers would have something better to do than complain about the food that you choose to eat..we don't force you to ingest fries and burgers, do we?
McDonalds is a load of crap! It's a restaurant and if someone orders a burger without pickles, it's your job to get that order right!! And if the employees can't do a simple thing like making a burger the way the customer wants it,, they really shouldn't be working there!! I eat McDonalds maybe once a month,,, and every single time they mess up my order!! I love it when I get all the way home and find out that the dumb asses forgot to give me sauce with my chicken nuggets or that I was given a single quater pounder when I ordered and payed for a double!! I'm sick and tired of McDonalds poor service and will never eat there again! People will never stop complaining about service as poor as McDonalds.. so don't count on it.. McDonalds sucks end of story!!

Well actually, maccas doesnt suck. Why dont you get behind that counter and produce 9 Cheeseburgers and then get 4 people who want something special on them, we have to accomodate that, then you have those people who make a burger that doesnt exist and basically make us go away from our run of burgers, and fetch what they want.
Yes i work at maccas, yes i sometimes eat maccas, i havent seen them get it wrong yet, you order a burger, you get what you order. If you dont get what you order, then take it back and point it out to them and ask for a NEW one. The RIGHT one. We have peiople complain about Coke beind hot....Yet its cooled all day....Some people are just fussy, yes grill orders are somtimes hard to do but at least people are there trying their best to do it. Not everyone is like you, not everyone is a superhero with a cape....i mean i know your the best cook ever, and you have done 10 years at maccas, and you know the ins and outs....You dont....

I swear they should hire monkeys to work at mcdonalds they might do a better job. And it would cost less for the company if the employees weren't such idiots. I ordered a cheeseburger and got 3 different burgers before I got what I asked for, and it still had onions and pickles which I asked it not to have but after wasting my lunch hour I didn't have time to waste anymore. So they effectively wasted 3 burgers on one order that they should have gotten right the first time.

Well no, but your employers do put something addictive in the food to make us want to eat it again.
There is no way I could possibly feel this much better than I did an hour ago, before eating a McDonalds muffin, unless I ingested something other than normal food. I AM HIGH! and I think McDonalds should be shut down and the owners jailed for life.
My workmates also say they have cravings for McDonalds after eating it once.

Blah blah the reason your order is always wrong is because mcdonalds hires illegal immigrants and theyre AWARE OF IT, VERY AWARE OF IT. Most of them dont speak english and are paid minimum wage. Thats why youre order is wrong, its not the girl or guy taking the order of the intercom, so next time THINK of that before you come up cussing at the money taker or order taker...., its the illegals in the kitchen who cant read the screen to MAKE the burger correctly. They dont feel the wrath of the customer,,, and we're certainly not going to rip open every burger thats made to see if its right,,, youd bitch about that as well.
I don't like you. You're a bad word.

I've worked fast food, it's not that hard to check a bag before handing it out the window. I ordered 2 breakfast sandwiches and 2 hashbrowns and I received 3 sandwiches, a breakfast burritto and 1 hashbrown. It would have taken 5 seconds to look in the bag and see the order was wrong. And when I went back inside to get my order corrected, I was offered nothing in return for having to wait 10 minutes the first time and 10 the second time to fix it. All because the window person didn't take that extra 5 seconds. I am usually in support of raising the minimum wage, but these people don't deserve the $5.15 they're getting when they give service like this.

I always get my order wrong, and have to go back up to the store, but I always bring my food back just to show them, so that way there is no mistaking that it was wrong. I'm a very picky person and so I write down my order SPECIFICLY!!! and hand it over to the person at the register. It is WROTE DOWN right in front of them and still they get it wrong. I wrote ADD TOMATO, I checked at the counter, and BAM NO TOMATO, so I say to her "I asked for tomato and there is none on here" and she says to me "Oh well we're going to have to charge you then" Now I ask you, sure if I got it the first time I have no trouble paying for it, but if you get it WRONG, shouldn't you just say "Oh im sorry let me go fix this for you" because thats what I would have done...I try not to be rude because Im a telemarketer so I know how it feels but there are certain circumstances...like if I write it down and you still get it wrong, and I WAS THE ONLY ONE IN THERE!!! No drive thru customers, no counter customers....and heres the best part, I asked for my fries and my mcchicken well done, and I sat there and watched them make them (NOT WELL DONE) and I asked her I said "Are these well done" and she said "YES" Flat out lied to my face....there is no where but home nowadays that you can get your order made exactly to your liking. And you'd think well if they keep getting your order wrong just dont go there anymore, ok HAVE YOU TASTED THEIR FRIES???? THEY ARE ADDICTING!!!! lol

When I walked in to Mcdonalds in Lagrange, In. on 12/23/06 at 7:00 PM, it was mass confusion. No one was assigned to work the counter, no one was taking orders, drive thru was backed up around the building. It seems to be staffed with untrained teenagers with no one in charge. When I was ignored for at least 5 minutes I finally spoke up. Then an employee getting off work came around the counter and cut in front of me. Now understand I was the only one in the inside waiting at the counter! When I spoke up and said I had not been waited on I was treated as if it wasn't important and I really didn't know what I was talking about. I strongly suggest that someone pull a service and quality audit on the Lagrange, In. store and find out for yourself what the public has to put up with. Did I mention that my order was screwed up when I got home? Go in and find out for your self. Its run by a bunch of untrained, rude, and non-service oriented KIDS that really don't care how you are treated or what you think. Or if they get your business or not for that mater!
As a soon to be senior citizen I am not going back.
