Crew Member to Crew Trainer

I work at McDonald's, and I am 18 years old. I've been a crew member for exactly a year now, and I have learned how to do everything in the store besides grill. I want to become a crew trainer and eventually (maybe) a manager. I love working at my job, and I love my co-workers. I'm interested in becoming a manager for many reasons. But first thing is first.

I have asked my manager when I could start learning grill, and since we have a lot of new people, she said maybe in a month or two. Someone who only knows how to do grill has become a crew trainer in only 7 months. There are other people who I work with that would also be good and qualify for crew trainers.

So how, and when, should I ask my manager to become one? Or should I let them come to me first? How do I prove that I am better for the job than the others?

In the year that I have worked there, I have never been late, I have never called in sick, I've never gotten in trouble for anything, and I'm usually always available when they call me in.

Hi Christine.
I can provide you with my story - I've been working at McDonald's for over half a year now and exactly a month ago, I was approached by the head of trainers asking me whether I would like to become one.

So I guess this is how it goes.

Also, if I can give you an advice - rather think twice before accepting this position. Not only you'll get more responsibilities (trainings, HACCAP, etc.), you also may (will) get on bad terms with some of, maybe all, your co-workers. Being it mostly the people who are at the same position as you right now.

If you want more info about this, the work of CT or anything else, I'll write you more, just say what you're interested in :) We're apparently on the same boat - loving the job!

Well it's probably true I should think twice about accepting the position, but I can't see myself working anywhere else, and I think it's best that I should move up. I think they are in need of crew trainers as well.

I think I am good at teaching people and helping them learn new things, and I am friendly and kind. Being on bad terms with some of my co-workers is bound to happen, but (most) everyone there is respectful and mature. I think I can handle it.

I would love to know more info about it. I think maybe I should wait until I am done with school (graduating in June) so that I have more time to take on more responsibilities and by then I will have more experience in grill.

What else should I know about it?

Well, being friendly is one of the most important qualities of CT, but so is being strict. It is really difficult to make checklists (do you call it like that in USA?) to friends, especially when that person fails the checklist. Not sure how about your friends, but I had almost lost some good friends because of this, but there is no other chance.

Have you ever asked your fellows about some advanced info? Like the HACCP book, quality manual and such? As far as I know, both shall be available to anyone for self-education, try checking it out, maybe even learn it, you will definitely make a good impression towards your managers.

I've been working at McDonalds for almost 5 years and haven't been promoted. I'm a lot better then the crew trainers and Team Leaders but no promotion, it mainly comes down to who the managers like more and newer employees. newer employees can easily look good and get an E on their review and get promoted.

It's been my almost 3rd week at McDonalds & I'm already a Crew Trainer. Started June 12th 2017 & i'm getting the promotion in Late July / Early August. I recently just got told i will be getting promoted just friday of last week which was June 30th 2017. I am only 17 years old & have only had experience with Grill & partially some line.. It is very hard work, although im used to it. Very fast paced environment & if you can't work fast, then don't work here. If you're slow & like to dilly dally around, don't work here if you can't stand for 8 to 12 hours a day, don't work here, There are days where you take no breaks. I've had a 10 hour shift with no break for almost a week and a half. But if you're working fast & focused & executing products in a very consistent manner, then time will fly by. & that's what my long shifts are like, they go by fast. The breaks are only 15-30 mins long. most of mine were 15 because that's how the schedules play out for breaks. Never ever ask for breaks. Managers will always find time. Never have i ever asked a manager for a break, to them it shows that you can't handle working.( that's what one of mine told me ) never ever be slow in this job ever. if you have a bad attitude, don't apply. it's not a correctional facility for a bad attitude it's a job & if you have it, then i guarantee you'll be fired in a heartbeat. Managers & Suprivisors have no time to put up with slackers & half a****, if you're these people i mentioned, do not work here. Mcdonald's needs fast & self motivated people & a strong work ethic & driven youth & adults.

I do not mean to scare any one away from Mcdonald's, because it's an amazing place to work. But hard work & consitency are the keys to moving up so quickly.

also if you're the type of person who likes to be awarded & praised everytime you accomplish something, don't think about bringing that into mcdonalds. they don't care what you do, it's expected.
