Hawaii-bound World War II bomber recovered from Lake Michigan -...

A 68-year-old World War II Dauntless bomber was successfully recovered from the muddy bottom of Lake Michigan this morning and will be taken to National Aviation Museum in Pensacola, Fla., where it will be restored before being exhibited, three years from now, at the Ford Island Pacific Aviation Museum.

Nice story. Reviving a piece of history of when America was strugging to survive, back when Americans still cared.

Good for PAM; it may take three years but at least they'll get a REAL SBD Dauntless to hang from the hanger ceiling instead of a hollow fiberglass model. Now if they can keep it up and get their expansion underway and get more planes on exhibit they'll be able to attract more people.

This is surprising! I always took "landing gear" to be a non-count noun. M-W online doesn't give a plural for it. But it turns out that there are plenty of Web references to "landing gears," so apparently it's countable.
