Tests on more than 1,200 children's products, most of them still on store shelves, found that 35 percent contain lead -- many with levels far above the federal recall standard used for lead paint.

Stop blaming the Chinese.. the blame should be on the parents for letting their kids put ANYTHING and EVERYTHING in their mouth. It's a TOY not FOOD.

I know many people put blame on the Chinese toy manufacturers, and they should; there's no excuse for making shoddy, dangerous toys. However - a VERY large part of the blame needs to go to the toy companies in the US who are importing this junk. All the corporate heads care about is turning a large profit. If they really and truly care about their customers, why haven't they been doing more testing on the toys BEFORE putting them on the shelves?

As a concerned parent to little children, I'm very concerned with the amount of lead that seems to be pouring into this country from China. Whatever happened to the 80's philosophy of buying Made in the USA!? I'm not talking just toys either. People used to be proud to buy products that bore that. Our economy could take an upswing if we were able to buy made in the USA again.

How long has China been making toys? There! Their toys have always had lead. Get over it.

they go to the bank and our pets and kids go to the hospital.
when will this country learn anything from another country should pass VERY TUFF TESTING before it can come into this country. That goes for the people as well!!!!!!!!!! |
I agree with you but sadly, it's all about the dough-re-mi. Big corporations want to make as much money as they can without spending any more than they have to. That works up to a point but after a while, the quality of their products/services goes down. Personally speaking, I hope all of the big toy companies lose money big-time this holiday shopping season. |

It's apparent that most people do not understand how international business is conducted. These toy companies do one of two things. They buy toys that are already made and they contract to buy X amount of a certain toy or they contract with a company (often in China) to build a toy to their requirements.
The U.S. company has an obligation to the consumer to make sure the toy they are buying meets our standards for safety. The Chinese might sell the same toy all over the world and standards in other countries are not always the same as ours. So if the company in the U.S. who is marketing the toy does not check to see what went into that toy then they are liable. If they asked and the Chinese lied about it then the Chinese would be liable. But I doubt that the latter is the case. The second scenerio is where the company contracts to have a toy built in China. In this case the U.S. company has to stipulate all requirements in the manufacture of that toy. If they fail to tell the company to not us lead based paint then it's the fault of the U.S. company who is buying the toy. It is the contracting (buyer) companies responsibility to dictate what is in the product and often how the product is built. If you leave the contract open, as many of them did, then the company doing the manufacturing will make it the cheapest way possible. Again, their safety standards are not the same as ours. |

Every year I buy toys from Irwin Mainway. The kids grew up with them and now the grandkids love them. Mainway's "Bag-O-Glass" remains a favorite.

More toxic crap from China. When will our spinless president and congress stand up for the American people? The anwser, NEVER, because China owns America and had them all in their pocket. What a bunch of bastardos.

Yeah... RIGHT!!! Unions are what drove businesses out of this country! Buying American has NOTHING to do with promoting unions. By the way, it's spelled 'LABEL' |
