U.S. sees luxurious future in Baghdad
Forget the rocket attacks, concrete blast walls and lack of a sewer system. Now try to imagine luxury hotels, a shopping center and condos in the heart of Baghdad.

Perhaps they could be successfull if they were building Walmarts and White Castles, as the first Congressional hearings on the contractors rebuilding the sewers in Bagdad was in 2003:
Closed or private bid procedures for Iraq http://www.fas.org/irp/congress/2003_cr/s0501... "The only reason the United States would be awarding contracting to rebuild Iraq would be if the United States went to war. So if the requirement for security clearance was needed before the war broke out, it is hard to see what would have changed once the war started. As a member of the Senate Intelligence Committee, I thought the argument was a bit shaky at the outset. I was not certain why you would need all of the security clearances to fix the sewer system." And right here on Topix is the article where the subcontractors are collecting the millions, and not performing the services, such as fixing the Bagdad sewer system. Only 5 years not to do that? How many extra billions and years to complete the luxury hotels, shopping center and condos. And this is all for who, the oil company execs moving in? How about some housing instead for the millions of Iraq refugees waiting to go home? So they can run and police their own country. |
