Funny, Lowe's puts out press releases saying they will be hiring 45,000 associates for spring.
People read it their local papers, they go to Lowe's career website as instructed, Lowe's career website crashes.
Typical Lowe's.
Never prepared to handle the demand from their marketing.

Attention old timer employees(3 or more years at Lowes): This is the first wave of the dolts that will replace you. Make no mistake about it, the target is on your, and my, back.

Expect waves like this the next 2-4 years, until most of us are swept away.

No one wants to actively fire those with a tenure. It makes little difference actually, as we are currently hiring many new employees at or above those tenured rates due to our commitment to recruit and pay above the competitive rate. 99.9% of the time you people bitching about being targeted suck epically at your jobs, because that's about the only way to get written up or fired in the current HR dominated environment at Lowest. Lets just be honest. Every single one of you that are intelligent, know a dozen employees at your store that are idiots, but think they are ten times smarter than their management. They are not.

I wouldn't use the term "tenure" outside of academia as there's more of a legal underpinning and process associated with it.

I just see the structure of management and those under them at lowes in a paradox.

Way too much responsibilities are given to management and yet if those under them get empowered then frankly there's less need for management. This is why I have seen department managers as MOD and panic attacks by management if they don't know how to use a piece of power equipment or do some manned task (rekey locks, cut blinds etc) So to the eyes of the customer they appear weak.

What exactly is the incentive to perform at this point other than having a job? Variable overtime ended but the lawsuit for backpay was pennies on the dollar, spiffs and sos are gone, bonuses are harder to come by, there's less jobs within the stores (outsourced delivery, installs probably going away, pricing downgraded etc) and less new stores opening.

The benefit package frankly is nothing special. Lowes insurance is pretty much governmental insurance for those on assistance. Now maybe if the ESOP was around that would be good but irony hits as the stock skyrockets only after it is taken away.

HD is doing it as well. Hiring new part-timers, while cutting hours of current part-timers. Fewer benefits paid out--more profit for the shareholders. It sucks, but that is what big business is (for the most part). It's all about schedule "flexibility". It also sucks, because you get what you pay for. You also have to keep hiring part-timers, as many new employees don't give a rats-as* about HD or Lowes anymore. Now, if you maybe made them FT right off the bat---never mind; that doesn't happen anymore.

The 45000 would work out to about 25 associates per store, which is probably about average for what a store hires for the spring season. The 9000 is the reinvestment into payroll they announced weeks ago, and is only for stores doing more than 25 mil.
Now, if you believe these permanent associates are being brought in to get rid of FT associates, then you should strive to hit your numbers, and perform. It is hard for a store to "get rid" of employees, so you have to be more or less actively trying to get fired to end up that way.

if it happened at depot it can happen at lowes. they're just trying to save money. i don't believe they're bul$#it anymore. like when u went to the lef meeting and my store manager said you don't need to know anything just google it. i could barely keep a straight face. they don't value knowlege anymore. if yoy don't see what's happening either your delusional or a lowebot.

So...? They're going to layoff specialists? Mathematically speaking, which may be absurd, lol, it wouldn't work.
9000 pt's would equate to 4500 ft's, and that would mean 2.5 specialists per store. Who would go? How do you decide which departments?....just playing devils advocate...
