I know the zones and sales in my store were worried but the Ops. and Admin were not. I think the store mgr. knew more than he let on to,I think there is more to come in the way of change. Our grapevine talks alot, I listen !
He/she knew nothing. Nothing.

My guess is the decisions had alot to do with our new Gov. contract status and the way unions handle this. Did you notice this bypassed the posting process and everything was done per store. That is why some very good people were let go because they happen to be in stores with other quality people and it was done on a per store basis.
The GSA status has nothing to do with this.

If they did it any other way, they would have to follow the posting procedure which would have dragged this out forever.

About as much as I liked the "It's Your Ship" book. Right now, it is my rowboat.

You didn't. Many of those who were "impacted" did not deserve this. It makes me ill.
Thankyou for you words about the ones let go. So many people outside of the situation have been so busy pointing their fingers at us, wondering what we did so wrong that we would be the ones let go, bashing our years of dedication to the company without even really knowing who they are talking about. My former store manager was/is torn up about this as well and we've stayed in touch. Many of us do not and may not ever understand what happened. So again thankyou for showing a softer look at the "impacted". Good luck to everyone left as management

There seems to be some confusion on the 8000 new part time jobs. Lowes is not replacing the 1700 managers with these jobs. This is the Spring hiring that is done every year. These jobs are 90 day seasonal only. Most of these people will only work the 90 days.

Incorrect. These people will be permanent part time working Friday night, Saturday, Sunday and holidays. They are in addition to the Spring hire.

You dont have an ops anymore. Your store and HR manager should know all about the WE team. If not, they are seriously out of the loop.

The WE (weekend) team that is to be established is only going to be successful if everyone supports the program. Initially these individuals will not have the overall experience or knowledge to fully function independantly, but with time and support, these associates will be able to give the WOW customer servicd that we have been trying to accomplish for the past year. It will rely on all associates helping to support and train them. We all know that the majority of our business happens on the weekend, we will benefit greatly from their presence.

How many folks are going to want to work every weekend and every holiday? I cannot think of too many.

Training is so important and is lacking in some stores. Taking those computer classes does not qualify you. It takes weeks and months to learn the systems, processes and product, sooner if you have a good mentor, but, that usually is not the case. You are on your own many times as soon as computer training is complete. Assistant and dept. managers need to do a better job of working with their people--this is the case for any job though.

Turnover is very costly.

We have older employees who are jumping at the chance for part time weekends and holidays and they do know the store. With the economy the way it is many will take any job now. In the beginning it wouldn't be any different than the "blue vest" program. Which is greet them, take them to the dept. and pass them off. It will be as good as we make it!

Dont know guys and Gals,
Lowes is a good company, but being forced to make hard decisions.
is it fair that the store managers go on their Party vacations to Vegas, Nope. Or that the former CEO got a multi million dollar bonus, Nope.
But that's life. We knew it wasn't perfect when we joined but no company is.
heck the new policy and procedure on Time and attendance coming out isn't fair either but what can we really do?
if we fight they will fire us and hire someone cheaper.
Its better to remember this later. when they need someone to stay and close because someone called in, or to work on your day off. Its a job they dont care about you so dont care about them.
do your job to the best of your abilities but jump ship if another better offer comes.

i just hope they arent removing commissions. But if they do it will be after the national sales meeting thats when they allways take something away.

I have heard that they will be doing away with PSA'a and going to district teams
Just so you know, the "party vacation" for store managers is anything but. Long, long, long days. I personally detest it, as does every store manager in our district.

After 10+ years with a company I believed in and where I worked my way up to Senior level management twice, I was called in from my vacation and in a matter of a few minutes my career with Lowe's came to an end. Talk about double speak, I was told by my SM that he had no choice and no say, but the letter in my packet laid all the blame for my being the "chosen one" on the SM, District Manager, and HR. No thanks for 50 to 60 hrs. a week, caring about those that worked for me, or for taking pride in what I did. Thank you Lowe's and by the way, I always encouraged my friends and neighbors to support me and my company. In the importal words fo Edgar Allen Poe, "Never More" I am not a supporter of unions but for those of you still employed at Lowe's, if you want to throw a scare into this corporate giant, contact a union representative now. As for the Lowe's corporate higharchy, there had better be some cuts at the top, after all it's those at the store level that make your jobs possible.
I can tell you categorically that these decisions were NOT made by the store manager. NOT. I am one and I felt as if someone had put a bullet through my heart when I was told what I had to do. I am so sorry.

Its all speculation I guess but it seems logical. The Company can save SSEI bonus dollars by eliminating the position and since specialists are no longer 40+8 there really is no need for distiction.

Last week's ops talk indicated that we had come to the end of the upheaval,(my words), although their definition of change may differ from my own.
