I was a PSA in Indiana and I was given a CSA 4 position. No change in pay, its a lateral move. My store mgr read from a script too, and I was told that there were not any job losses from this change, so maybe that happened in stores where there were no more openings. Also there are going to be at least 7 district PSA's, PSA lead and a PSA that reports directly to the district mgr. This is all effective as of 2/19.

why drag this out, make your changes in one day instead of making everyone be on pins and needles. The insensitivity of top management. It's difficult enough without wondering when the changes will be complete.

I dont like what is happening with how lowes is handling this restructure, but they want sales. So to cut commissions and spiffs would be asisnine. 50% of most specialists pay is paid through spiffs and the vendor picks up the tab. Sure they could take them away, but they lose all the top specialists and are left with order takers who dont drive sales but ones who maintain them. More sales equals more buying power which then increases margin dollars.

When specialist make more than seniors and dept. Managers thru commissions (f1) who deal with all of their customer issues and wont help any other department even when it is very slow i see that as a problem

Everyone has the same oppurtunity to be a specialist. Most of the top sales people take care of their own issues, thats how we keep clients and get refferals. The top specialists lose more lunches and breaks than anyone else in the store to get sales.

It's always hard when you have to cut jobs. The Admin, Sales & Ops positions were created during a time of booming sales for Lowe's. And as the sales decreased so has the need for non-sales floor managers. Senior managers were rated and if cuts had to be made at a store, managers were cut by job performance not seniority. This trimming of "The Fat" will be good for Lowe's in the long term, allowing more sales floor hours to focus on customers needs.
The cuts were based on performance and performance ONLY....Those who were cut need to look in the mirror....You had issues

3 out 5 customers who look for appliance have already made their mind to buy . Specialist only make it complicated by selling bigger SPIFF items for themselves not the store and promise situations that creates future problems

It was different when specialist were salaried+overtime. Now that they aren't, there really is no need for the title. At times it can cause elitism where some spec's, especially appliances, just don't pull their weight and feel there job is to sell not stock shelves or maintain the dpt. That mentality has to go. Don't get rid of spiffs or commisions but I could see them getting rid of the position title and saving on SSEI bonuses.

Lowes opened too many stores too fast...not to take anything away from lowes, but lowes was too competative. Opening stores that are less than 5 miles apart(home depot in between)...that strategy was working...a few home depots closed...but with the economy...was it worthing? I think lowes had a"live by the sword...die by the sword" mentality...high tisk, high reward...

Not true !!

some of the cuts were based on tenure, pay and suitability with the remaining structure. All things were taken into account.
This is YOUR company and they are doing the best they can with the situation they are in.
Monday morning quarterbacking is always easier. Give it a rest,do the job we are paid to do and let things settle down. And for heavens sake quit the conspiracy reteric about everyone losing their job. We'll know when we know.

Sick and tired of people like you complaining about appliances specialist. It's not just appliances that's like that, and it's not everyone either. Yeah they, I! Make good spiff, or at least we used to. I don't know about you, but try mooning heavy appliances at a daily basis, it's not just appliances that we have to take care of, but a full back warehouse off appliances, three bays high times thirty six. Then on top of that, take care of small appliances, home environment,......... I work hard for my money, and I'm sure if everyone did the same, things would be much better. If I get layed off tomorrow the only people I have to thank are all the slackers out there and the great corporate greed. There' s noting you can do to change things, but at lest don't make it worse for everyone else by pointing fingers and throwing out your own concoction of what cud happen tomorrow.

Using your analogy then 3 people buy no matter what. Then 2 dont buy and you lose 40% of potential sales. It sounds like you have crappy specialists, but thats not the situation everywhere. To upsell creates more margin dollars and yes we get paid more to upsell, but no specialist in their right mind would work for just an hourly wage. Just go to home depot and best buy and try to get help with and appliance and see how much help a non commision salesperson gives.
