No one knows, and no one will know until the day it happens. As long as the plan is need to know only at corp, it won't leak because the leak would be easily found. Once the plan gets out to the market level, that's when it leaks quickly.

I just don't think with all the developmental plans they've put in place for ASMs that they could make cuts there. Area staff, HR, and LP are all convenient targets though.

Then you have no clue how Lowe's corp. works. Everything is done for short term gain. On a whim...

It is to be effective today there will no longer be levels of cashiers. They will all be classified the same and there will be pay adjustments made. No more levels and all will be required to do the same functions. It was not announced today but it is happening.

I haven't heard of this yet, but it makes sense. Instead of cashier 1-3, or even CSA 1-4, the pay grades should be more position specific. A customer service desk position is different than cashier, but as it is, Cashier III doesn't really do anything different than cashier I. A CSA in a specialty department does a much different job than a non-specialty no installs dept. It could be argued that different DM positions are easier or more difficult and deserve a higher or lower pay grade.

From what I have heard..........

By 2015 or so we will be operating more as a showroom surrounded by a warehouse. Think ikea. Your sales staff will be in the showroom helping customers who need someone to hold their hand and pick things out etc. The area surrounding the showroom will be set up with contractors in mind. Things will be easier to find for them because it can be more straight forward without all the average consumer fluff. The non-sales folks will become gofers so to speak and act as order pullers and work in supporting roles for the sellers.

It was described to me by a reliable source with no reason to lie. LEF is really just a pilot program. They are putting their feelers out to test what is good and what is bad. Big changes will be coming. What we have seen so far is small ball stuff.

I have know about the cashier thing for a month now. It was no secret in our market. It is effective on 12/8. All cashiers will become coded as CSA's. The pay adjustment will be minimal. The expectation will be versatility.

I predict that corp will invest about $135 Million in additional payroll for stores over $25 M/yr starting in 2013.

while Lowe's worries about how to "code" their cashiers, customers are walking out the door to places like Home Depot and the local mom and pops.
much ado about nothing...

DM - Area staff probably not so much. Right now they're in the process of switching out the AIMs to FSMs (Field Service Managers) effectively killing the AIM, and re-classifying their job. Lowe's has got some pretty aggressive changes in plan to the Installed Sales program coming up over the next few years. AOM's, AHRM's possible - but not probable. I could see getting rid of a whole bunch of ASMs to offset the cost of the 135 million to the company - that would make sense. Admittedly - the whole rotation thing still has to go into effect - because my ASMs haven't changed, or gone to other stores, or anything.

We will see... the Staying Connected garbage that they handed out for Q4 is a joke though - just more of the same as Q3...

As I look in my Crystal Ball I see Lowes working every possible angle to turn a profit, no direction, try this, try that, back to this, lets try that again, cutting salaries, abusing their I need the job, I have no other choices, I have a family, dedicated employees. I see the employees in red vests in a big room eating left overs they bring from home for lunch saying grace thankful for the food they have. No one talks to one another in the lunch room, no one is happy!

"I predict that corp will invest about $135 Million in additional payroll for stores over $25 M/yr starting in 2013."

How many stores would that be though?

1740 is the total so if say 90% are at that or above that's 1566 stores and gets to about 86K per store..maybe three part timers but that's it. Hardly anyone would notice that. The only way to make a huge impact would be I'd argue at least three times that.

It's fairly safe to predict that they will continue to take things away to show an increased profit level. We will probably continue to lose ground to HD. They will continue to show little regard for the employees because of the belief that processes and technologies make a company great. They will continue to ask 40 people to do the work of 70. And if the budget allows, they will give each store some money for a cold cut platter lunch on major holidays to reward employees who must foresake their family time to help pad the corporate coffers..... but please bring your own side dish.

That very well may be but it's where we are headed if my conversation with this source was even half correct. Like I said, he had no reason to lie. We were just catching up and talking a little business.
