If he's cleaning house, subtle or not, it's probably at the direct orders of the market director. I have noticed a much firmer stance lately on addressing performance issues, and getting caught up quickly on addressing them if we let things go to long.

It is quite simple, the more full time high paid associates you can get to leave, the more part time and seasonal people you can hire. It puts more people between management and the customers which is pretty much what they want. If a problem arises then they step in, give the customer what they want and become the hero.
Per the link below lowe's is looking to hire aprox 45,000 seasonal employees this spring.
