this companies closing procedures have got to be thee most ridiculous I have ever heard or seen of a retail establishment
you are not allowed to make a closing announcement anymore, when you're in the last m inutes of being open
they expect you to stay as long as possible to tend to the inconsiderate asshole customers who are in the store, past closing hours.....and then hurry you up to get out cause, they're about to "lock-down
anyone else disgusted by this and think its very unethical towards the employees ?

Our store has a similar policy. I think it has more to do with the store manager than the company having a policy aganst it. Even half the lights going out doesn't dissuade some of the "customers". Some people are simply inconsiderate of others, they don't care about the people working there until they need some help.

Depends on the store. I remember pages saying that the store is closing. Or you just gradually close down cashiers so it pretty much consolidates coverage right there.

Hours are hours. They cannot bend things in case an accident happens.

I remember one nutjob guy that wanted dozens of cans of paint mixed beyond the speed the machines could do..ranted and raved and then the SM just told him to leave. There was nothing else we could do for him and anything beyond that could be considered trespassing.

I've been on machines 10 min after closing before, and looked up to see a customer walking towards me. Happened numerous times. Usually because some as$kisser unlocks the door for someone, or leaves it unlocked for customers to freely come in. In all cases this has happened, call the front and tell them to make the announcement again, I then go directly to the front, shut down the doors, and lock them myself. Closing time is closing time. Go somewhere else if you don't like it.

I've seen the opposite happen. Before my store opened (as in opened for the general public) some odd women with a German accent barged in and took a b line for the sos knobs saying "It's ok I work for the airlines?!?" she was asked to leave and escorted out. I've seen a few beg in the mornings to open up early because "Come on I just want one thing!" as if the head cashiers will work faster setting registers up just for her..

...so why do you work at lowes given all the opportunity within College Station ?

Um, nedm, just so you're aware, the vast majority of folks on this board consder YOU to be the troll. I know you'll never understand. You're unbelievably ill informed and obnoxious. Just throwing it out there on the 1 in a million chance you figure it out.

Do you have any other interests other than Lowes? Perhaps you could torture a different topic for a while. I could take up a collection. You might be surprised how much $$$ would be raised.

Of course I have other interests. A few posts ever few days is hardly a interest.

Ill informed? Hardly.

Obnoxious not really.

exmanager I asked you awhile ago as to why you still come here given that you left the place.

I am not preventing anyone from bringing up anything. How much activity do you think this board has? This isn't the standards of the Well.

I generally think that most of the board is in large consensus that the company is not run well, not doing well and has little standards.

waste (another troll from Mooresville) I'm a dude.

No other interest?

Let's see I have a AS in one field, BS in another, just completed a masters degree, have a library of 120 or so books (probably 500 on the kindle), just made a small business deal on the side for $400, go to the gym a few times a week, each year I have a garden, sometimes I make beer, I keep in contact with people I have met on overseas trips and have around 80 connections on linkedin.

So if you honestly think I just sit here ALL day and post you are wrong. Quit making excuses for your own life. Man up and leave the company. There is a whole world there outside of lowes. The economy is picking up but housing is going to be the last part to pick up. Jump ship now while the getting is good. Why be known for sticking around a company that has no form of real training or qualifications? A sm at lowes cannot even run a lay z boy or a JC Penny!

why are you back on this accident thing again? Doesn't matter what the hours say if a customer gets hurt in the store.

Because that can be argument made in court.

Do the employees enforce the policies of the company? Yes or no?

Here's an example. The store does not allow dogs unless they are for the blind. Well one day they let one slide near a store near me and it bit another customer. Lowe's had to pay out because they didn't enforce their own rules.

Likewise if the store is closed and they don't enforce their own rules. Heck I know a gas station that closes at a given time. There is nothing the clerk can do to override the system. So if you go in at the last minute and only pump in about 10 cents worth it will shut off and now allow you to do the rest.

If a customer is hurt and they are in the store past closing that would probably be ruled as a fault of the store rather than the company for not asking the customer to leave. If say one is looking at cabinets just as a truck is unloaded and equipment moving that's a pretty strong sign you aren't supposed to be in the place. Then again if you see fewer and fewer customers that's a good sign as well.

Besides didn't you ever see Career Opportunities as a kid?

Lowes does pay overtime, if blue laws require it.Otherwise much of the stores on the eastern seaboard would close on sundays.

doesn't matter what hours are posted, if a customer is in the store the store is open. Do we quit using spotters for power equipment because it's past closing time or do we wait till all the customers are gone?

Of course you try to wait for the customers to be gone. But to fully insure that all the time can be hard if there is low staffing that night.Does your store make announcements that it is closed? I used to hear them in stores but not so much now. I've been in libraries where they'd announce a half hour prior and then dim the lights 15 minutes prior to closing. Not all stores close at the same time.

Most near me close on sundays at 8pm but there's a few at 9pm. If the customer gets confused they might think on staying. What if a customer confuses a night crew for a day crew and thinks the store is still open? Heck during mass receiving in opening a store I saw a customer come in once, we had to tell her to leave.

If hours are posted and customers are still in that can be called tresspassing. The cdl driver in my old store caught people behind the place looking for scrap saying "someone" told them they could take whatever is outside. I've seen want to get in early just to get "one thing" but I doubt the head cashier and opening cashiers want to hurry up just for that customer.

All I am saying is thre has to be a general expectation of when a store closes (and opens). Lowes isn't the type of store to run 24/7. I heard they tried that in Florida and it failed pretty bad.

I used to fill out the zone recovery sheets and turn them in, then didn't for a period of time. I haven't filled one out for months-the result--nothing.

I still sweep, empty garbage, face, downstock etc---but it is like peeing your pants in a dark suit-it gives you a warm feeling but nobody notices.
