Niblock will be gone within three years. Lowe's Board of Directors wants him gone.

An Oct. 19 article in the Wall Street Journal reported that home improvement giant Lowe's is working on a succession plan to replace current chief executive Robert Niblock, 50, within three years. Quoting sources close to the company -- Lowe’s would not comment on specifics for the article -- the newspaper reported that some board members are growing restive with Lowe’s reliance on technology to grow sales.

I think Niblock will be gone sooner than the three year timeframe the Board has outlined.

He'll be gone within a year.

There is hope for Lowe's, assuming the newly hired CEO is a good fit for Lowe's.

The hits keep coming for Niblock...

"Now reports have emerged that Lowe’s is considering a succession plan to determine an eventual successor to current CEO Robert Niblock. Lowe’s indicates it is always considering future successors throughout its corporate structure. However as Mr. Niblock’s background is accounting and financials have been troubling for some time, a look to the future must be embraced."

It's all over but the crying for Niblock....

"Lowe's starts CEO succession planning. Lowe's (LOW) board of directors is looking to find an heir apparent to CEO Robert Niblock in its hunt for an executive to fill the vacant post of chief merchandising officer (CMO), the WSJ reports. The idea is that the CMO would step into the top job within three years even though Niblock is only 50. Lowe's is under pressure over its revival plan to take back market share lost to Home Depot (HD)."

It gets even worse for Niblock...

"Employees cried out not so much for the loss of jobs as for the way the store closures were announced. Essentially some employees were notified there was no need to ever return to work as they signed out for an evening. To make matters worse members of the local press and politicians in affected areas sharply questioned several closures by wondering if some relatively new stores had been given enough time to turn things around. In some cases community leaders noted tax breaks given by local governments to encourage relatively recent store construction of those now closed. These questions were then elevated by the national press and politicians including a US senator. This embarrassment of execution was only compounded by increasingly optimistic financial reports and a solid turnaround by rival Home Depot."

As many may not know... commission was stripped from sales associate February 11 2012. Many of the best salesmen left the company simply because their pay was basically cut in half or more (depending on their selling skills) and associates have been asked to still have a boosted moral and continue to sell as if they are still being paid commission. Lowe's is a wonderful company and I hope they can pull out of it and be back on top in the home improvement industry.

Whenever Niblock leaves, I doubt he will be crying. If he gets a severance package of even a half or a third of what Nardelli got when HD chased him out, he will be too busy counting money to be crying. For Lowes' sake, I hope Niblock doesn't try to sue Lowes for even more, as Nardelli did after he left HD.
