Let me tell you about my idiot store manager. My asm tells us please everyone show up the meeting is very important and if we come in we will be paid for at least two hours. Our meeting ran one hour.We were treated to dounuts and juice but no coffee.Very boring waste of time,i did not learn anything new.The following day i declined my time sheet and put the comment in 2 hours for meeting. The HR dept said no we were only being paid for the hour of the meeting no more. The whole store knew corporate has sent an email stating that we were to be paid at least 2 hours.I asked my asm about it and he said sorry the boss said 1 hour only. This meeting was supposed to motivate us to push for the second half WTF
Contact your area HR. Direction was minimum 2 hours.

I've been a store manager for 10+ years. I can control all that at store level and I can tell u that I will absolutely not dump on my team like that! If your store is taking care of it's business, it's customers, and most importantly it's employees...none of this matters. Do u really think a SVP is going to check my schedules or a Market Director for that matter? Trust me they have much larger issues to deal with.
What position are you really because you're def not a store manager. I agree SVPs aren't out checking schedules. I was just told that that was coming down from them as an expectation to create consistency. The protection of your team on this issue gives you away. I've never met a SM or ASM that didn't hate those issues.

Its getting so frustrating.....i truly don't want to be cynical about big companies the rest of my life but one has to wonder if this incident wasn't an intentional mistake hoping people would except the 1 hour ruling.

"Our performance is not at the level we expect relative to the market. We are making the changes necessary to right size the organization, improve speed to market and enhance the shopping experience. We are keenly focused on improving our core business while also developing new capabilities and services for the future. I am confident we are moving forward on a clear path that is not dependent on an unlikely near-term economic recovery."

If you work in Massachusetts you can mess up their schedules big time by not working Sunday or 7 days in a row:

Must employees be paid time and a half for Sunday work?

See MGL c.136, s. 6. According to Your Rights on the Job by Robert M. Schwartz, 4th ed.(Labor Guild of Boston, 2000):

"With the exception of retail stores (see below), employers do not have to pay overtime for Sunday work unless weekly hours exceed 40 or if overtime compensation on Sundays is required by union contract.

Retail stores. Amendments in 1994 allow retail stores to open at any time on Sundays. The following rules apply:

Retail stores may not require employees to work on Sundays and may not take adverse actions against employees who decline work.

Non-managerial employees who work on Sundays must be paid time and one half wages, regardless of how many hours are worked during the week (this obligation does not apply to stores which employ seven or fewer persons, including the proprietor, on each day during the week).

Employees may not work seven consecutive days.

Complaints regarding Sunday work should be made to the Attorney General's Fair Labor and Business Practices Division. Violations are punishable by a fine of up to $1000."

Do like we do in the paint dept. We keep an empty 5 gallon bucket for emergencies when we are denied breaks.

First we put a sign on the desk: "Back in a few minutes"

We have a 9x12 drop cloth we drape over ourselves while we do our business.

At the end of our shift, we empty the bucket in the bathroom.

I thought all stores were doing this. It's part of the LEF program, at least that what the Store Manager tells us.

I had a DM tell us "we don't take breaks in this dept." For all the times we worked through breaks to get freight put away we never got a thank you-just criticism. I now take my 2 breaks daily.

Lowes was getting an extra 1/2 hour per day out of me and they did not appreciate it-no bigger raise, no thanks, no appreciation. Why go the extra mile for a company who doesn't appreciate hard work-other than I could go home knowing I had worked hard that day? Kinda like peeing your pants in a dark suit-gives you a warm feeling but know one notices.

Lately store managers are turning into Little Hitlers...won't let you transfer to a different store. Have to go to area hr or market director to trump him. You can take days off when he says you can. If you have a doctors appt have to take a float holiday. Cant use vacation in day increments has to be 2 weeks. If you put vacation in summer forget bout it... 2 weeks in january or february....high five yes....After northlake store managers change end caps to there way. Then he changes the schedule even though it posted in Kronos...favorites work good shifts and newbies and non fan favs get shit shifts....
