All suspects found guilty of murder or assault in the attack that killed Emery Kauanui should spend the rest of their lives behind bars, to protect society from their further attacks.

Doesn't it just figure that frick'n Cravens is aligned with violent people and affiliations like the Angels? I'm not even Jewish, but I find it offensive that this whole worthless gang of young men hail from a predominantly Jewish commmunity and schools, yet they promote hatred towards them. Frick'n Cravens is the biggest turd of them all, and I find it so satisfying that he's the only one of the bunch who didn't have the resources to get sprung from jail. Even more satisfying is that his family wasted (according to earlier press releases), about $175k in attorney fees with that rip-off Pacific Law Center. Why would any parent waste their earnings on bailing out such a piece of $h*t son like frigg'n Seth? Let his Angel friends tend to him!

Being drunk doesn't negate punishment for murder or manslaughter. All five of you guys are go'in down, and Bird Rock and La Jolla won't be missing you pieces of $h*t either!

Bunch of punks. Why is it that they only mess with people smaller than they are, that they know they can beat up. I've been going to Windansea for years and everytime I go I walk right by that bunch of retards and none of them has ever said a word to me or started anything. Might be because I am over 6 foot and weigh 250 lbs and if one of them did open their mouth they would be swallowing a few teeth. I never thought about it, but after this incident and several others prior I'm just waiting for one of them to say something, I almost want one of them to so I can hit them.

Karma finally caught up with them. Too bad Emery's life had to be taken away for this to happen. Think of all the crimes and bullying these jerks got away with and the tramatic impact they've caused on so many lives. They took someone's life, they should have to pay with their lives. They don't deserve to live!

Why do their defense attorneys even bother having their idiot thug defendants dress professionally in business attire? I'm sorry, but it doesn't change their image and reputation as thugs cruis'n for fights. Also, Seth, please shave off your stupid, silly little "soul patch" in your chin. You're ugly and vile enough to start with; you don't need more insult to injury with the ugly chin hair enhancement! Most people will never erase the image of Seth in his dumb drinking photo, posing with his stupid green ballcap on backwards and hand signs! These guys are going down...gang or not!

wait a minute ; all these kids were not in a fight started by emery over his girl friend grosso
Osuna and Hendricks never touched emery
emery started swinging and broke eric house's tooth , then seth gave him the fatal punch, what killed him was the fall , it was an accident ,some of these kids were not interested about two guys fighting over a girl, cool it; hendricks did not live in san diego for three years he was in Boston going to school near doug flutie's house who trained him in football
he never threw a single punch , get your facts

read the article writen by joel Sappell on the LA Times writen on december thirteen 2007 CALLED DEATH IN PARADISE
You can learn who Emery was who Seth was, who Osuna and Hendricks were , you can read can you?
Then you can speak within reason

Anne Marie,

It does not matter what the victim's past involved. That does not change the defendants actions that night. The victim is not on trial. All of the men are up on charges because they all willingly participated in the action of going to the victims house with the intent of violence. The whole Hank needed a ride excuse is bs...take a damn cab home! If Osuna and Hendricks were so innocent why did they leave the scene and leave Em bleeding on the ground. Why did they not call and wait for an ambulance to arrive? Instead, they ran like the guilty punks they are. What kind of person does that?

I am a Bird Rock local and graduate of LJHS and can tell you this was not an isolated event. It happened a lot. I know plenty of people who have had their lives negatively impacted by these boys violent natures. Many incidents were not reported because people were scared of retaliation actions. You want to tell me that is not gang like behavior? As a Bird Rock resident, I do not want them in my neighborhood harassing people.

It is sad that one night of drinking and bad decisions has ruined six people's lives. It is a hard life lesson to learn. Even if some/all of the defendants get off with a slap on the wrist (which I really hope they do not), do you think they are going to be welcome in La Jolla? Their names will be forever tarnished by their actions that night.

I am sure that the pressure will mount to plea out and some of the defendants will testify against others. They all deserve to be punished for their actions that night.

If it was a One-on-One fight between Emery and Eric, then why were 3 other guys besides just Eric kicking and punching Emery when he was on the ground after getting punched by Seth, not Eric. Why did they all have to show up together at Emery's house if it was just a one on one. Eric probably couldn't fight Emery on his own and the other guys already had anomosity towards Emery. Sounds like Four-on-One to me. I think they were all jealous of Emery because of his reality of becoming a successful surfer (something that none of these thugs could ever be). Sure sounds like they "ganged" up on him and beat him up as a gang unit. Parents, parents parents...what on earth were you thinking when you were raising these spoiled, rotton, disrepectful, controlling boys? You should have nipped it when they were younger. I bet if the procecution goes back and looks into their school files or talk to previous teachers, councelors or principals, you'll get a good idea of how these boys developed into the jerks they are. It's too late to fix them now. Their crimes will only get bigger if they are free to walk and don't pay the consequence of murder. The way they were raised, was to always get their way and not pay the consequence!

Moose: you sound like a nice guy and i just want to draw a point; maybe these kids were terrorising people, so did Emery who was arrested and we respect his passing away with sadness for he also seemed like a good kid who should be alive today
In the case of Hank Hendricks , he had left the area three years before, he had arrived in San Diego from Boston the day before, the only time that he did something was on new year's eve when someone shoved him and he threw a punch , he did not have the time of day to go around punching people ; he received seventy five lettrs of support from people who know him and saw him grow up and know how hard he worked , no time for fooling around
He was a hard worker and on the dean's list , how could he be involved with tugs who did nothing all day ? he is the kind of kid who worked hard all his life for he made it on his own worth
Grosso was at the scene, so was eric house, he had no guilt of punching anyone, it was not his battle, eric house and emery were fighting over grosso and the three of them were there when the police came
It happened so fast that i would have fled also
i witnessed wars and horrible sights as a child and when i did i removed myself , people do panick sometimes, specially if you are innocent of a crime.
JOEL sAPPELL in the LA times ; december thirteen 2007 IN THE ARTICLE titled death in paradise says on page six
" hank hendricks was different , he did not follow that pattern, he worked hard and left town on a scholarship" , i beleive that he and emery were two productive people
I have forgiven the people who left me almost dead from hunger and disease for revange comes from God , these people paid their dues not through me but in terrible ways ,there is a justice? THAT I AM SURE ABOUT

Anne Marie,

Just curious...do you know the men involed personally? Do you know Hank? Or were you just taken by the Times article?

If Hank was only trying to protect Jenny from being hurt, the best thing he could have done was to break up the fight. I know the men involved and know if you are hanging out with them (even if its only a couple of times a year) you know the kind of trouble they tend to gravitate towards. They have been acting like this since young high schoolers. Seems to me if Hank was such a wonderful citizen he would not want to surround himself with that sort of behavoir. All of the boys involved deserve to be punished, albeit on different levels, for their actions that night. They need to FINALLY learn the lesson that their actions have consequences. Anyone can get family and friends to write letters on their behalf. That is just my personal view though and everyone is welcome to their own.

Ive known these Group of Assholes for my whole life, and they should get what they deserve, it proves them right to fight and steal and Mess with little kids their whole lives, to catch up now with their bad karma. If anyone needs me as a witness i will testify against all of them. They know me as much as they knew that Kid they killed.

P.S They were Gang Members , since they always bragged about that Crew/Gang thoughtout school.

i do understand that you are angry and you should be ; Hank was removed from these kids for three years he was like the man from the moon " away" they had evolved in ways that he did not realize as his life was consumed by work
there is another article writen by his school mate called " leave, just leave" the guy who wrote it is Noah Hy Brozinsky the newspaper is called the Cornell Daily sun ; he grew up with Hank , he says that Hank was nothing like that
The seventy five letters were from Doug Flutie who trained Hank in football for three years in Natick where Hank lived with his family, another from Hendrickson of the New York giants and Nicklaus of golf, doctors, mothers, army officers,( whom he met when they went to Cuba for their school) doctors, teachers, trainers, fellow football players, people who watched him grow up, lived with him day to day would have seen a monster if he was one , but he was not
; if he was a tug , these people in high places would have spurned him
I did know Hank and he is basically kind. pretty dumb people wise , the one who invited him was Eric House not Seth : in fact during the beer spilled incident Hank was gone, he was at a store, he did not see it, he was not at the restaurant at the time and he was not thrown out ; Eric House and Emery were arguing not him
Yes i have known Hank now and then , he is laid back and calm, he would not go up to someone ever to harass him , i have never seen him do that
people who have plans for their future are concentrated on that , they do not have the time of day to be tugs , they are too tired and focussed to do the right thing, he is on the dean's list, he is not rich and spoiled, they all work hard in that family , they are doers
It is something that evolved fast and that turned into a drama. a tragic thing and Hank was on the periphery of the incient not in it, he made a mistake to run away that's true, but can you be trashed for doing that?
I do not know the others , but if they spent their after high school time going around trashing people, they were really pretty bad and bored it seems , they should have used their energy on their future life
Hank was not arrested at firdt, he went willinglly and deposed which he knew was putting him in harms way
thats all i can say and what i know

this is an answer for mad dog; you are right they have gone back on their performance when they were still young, Hank hendricks had the good behavior tag; said his teachers, trainers, friends , Doug Flutie, Hendrikson of the Newyork giants, Nicklaus of golf, people could have been jealous of him as well as of Emery ; these two were high acheivers
Emery did not deserve to die as he was also working hard, he did too have a trigger temper and hurt people, he was on parole for assaults as well as the others; maybe the beaches of San Diego have a bad influence and people drink there
but some got out and tried to make it right all their lives , all of them have different level of
doing things , they cannot be in the same bag

I am sure Hank will plead out, testify against Seth and maybe Eric and not take the risk of serving serious time. Probably in talks already.

Either way, with the media attention this has received, he will be punished one way or another. None of the men are walking away from this. Who is going to want their names linked with them? Who will want to hire them? Not anyone I know. His name, along with the others, will be permantly linked to this crime. Any way you look at it, he was at the scene of a murder and did nothing to stop it or help the victim. That is accomplice to murder in my books.

Emery was a wonderful soul, who like all others, deserved to live his life to the fullest. Those five men took that opportunity from him and every single one of them has to live with the horrendous decisions they made that night for the rest of their lives.
