The vote was overwhelming to open the contract. The committe will go to Detroit soon (i think next week) to start the process. Nobody wants to give up any wages or benefits but everyone understands the reality of what is going on in the economy. I for one don't want to be bagging groceries down at the Chief in a few years because we were too stubborn to step up and get this thing done.
Sounds like you would bend over and just let them give it to you. Hell you might have to work bagging groceries at the Chief just to keep up your current lifestyle

I am pleased that the membership voted to allow the committee to go to Detriot. I feel we all did the right thing. I hope for the best to come out of this.

Thanks to all my fellow brothers and sisters! Best of luck to thoes all in other plants!

I don't see how they can keep Wauseon open when we lose money every year. Our plant has consistently been one of the worst performing plants at Lear and IAC. We need to move toward lean manufacturing which is alot more cost effective.

Well Jimbo you could not be more wrong in fact we made a profit last year just not enough to get profit sharing. Wauseon made more money back in the day when GM pickup trucks were selling, GMT 800. Not sure where you get your info but I doubt you are from Wauseon, so why don't you go back to your backwoods crap shack and redo your math!

I am hearing that there will be a Union meeting next week sometime to dicuss what happened in Detriot. I am also hearing that our committee stuck to their guns and said no to concession just like all the other plants did. I guess now we wait and see what happens come November when our contract is up. Our contract expires on November 15, 2009. I hope all stay united as they did in Detriot. I for one need my job, but they need not to take away what I have now!

Yes we had a vote last week Thursday. We voted to let them go into negotiations early. They also stated that this would allow them to go to Detriot to talk with IAC and all 12 union plants to help lay down the foot work for all 12 plants. They did not want to wipesaw each plant against one another. So far it looks like it is working. Now we just need to see what corporate does now.

Don't be pissed because our committee had enough common sense and respect for our rights as union to put it to a vote. The people should have a say in any major decision in our shop and yours

"We voted to let them go into negotiations early."
The vote was not to let them go into negotiations early. It was to let them negotiate a new contract early. There is a difference. They didn't need our permission to go negotiate the next contract to replace the current one in November. The only reason to have a vote is be able to replace the current one early. You people are fucking naive. I'd be ok with that if people would have some balls, but they won't and we'll get fucked. Since that is the case I would've rather had a guaranteed contract until Nov, but instead I get to listen to everyone whine and moan about how they are going to close the plant if we don't give them what they want. Hey, this sounds just like the last time negotiations came up? I'd be willing to be money that the next negotiations will sound just like this time too. And hey, why not just be scared pussies and say yes every time so that we can't negotiate jack shit. If I have to hear one more fucking person whine about how the union doesn't do anything for them and all the while they keep voting yes, I'm going to puke.

Yes the vote was to let them go into negotiations early...when you voted and listened to the committee they were asking our permission to let them go into negotiations EARLY!! It even said it on the ballot that you circled yes or no on. How does it hurt to let them start our negotiations early when our contract is up in November and they always start about two months out. So go ahead and puke, because we may not have a job if things don't get better with the big 3. Do you even pay attention to what is going on? I worry everyday if it is going to be the last day at this plant, I don't know about you but I read the want ads everyday and there is nothing out there! people are going to talk and worry...if you don't like it than don't listen to what they are saying!

Well said. If the big 3 don't survive, we will all be out of work soon. Such a sad state of affairs. Unfortunately we have a lot of people running around with their head in the sand who don't want to face reality. We all need to put our plant in the best position possible. It is everyone's responsibility.

Uh, no, the vote was most definitely not to let them negotiate early. They started negotiations for the last contract in May without needing a vote. The only thing the vote was for was to let them implement the new contract early. Go ahead, keep being sheep. If the plant is going to close then the plant is going to close and taking concessions isn't going to make a bit of difference except to make our last days there even worse. If you think for one second that IAC doesn't already know which plants it's keeping open and which plants it's closing then you are a fool. That would be most of the plant. Fools.

You know what I know what is going on because I go to a union meeting. I even go when I don't want to hear people like you bitch when things aren't going your way. I am not stupid and yes I know they have an idea as to what ones they want to close, but here is the truth WE DON'T!! They want us to go against each and everyone of our Union plants, they want the one who makes the most concessions to set the tone for the rest! Stop being a Wauseon bitcher and pay attention once in a while. Stop being one of thoes people who bitch but never do anything about it! I am tired of people like you who have no idea as to what is going on and get others all worked up over your foolishness! Be a Union Brother or Sister not a union member who bitches until they need the union to help them out!

I agree with you unhappy in wauseon. I hope for the best, but really am expecting the worse. I just wish the rumors on the floor would stop, and people would listen to what the Committee has to say. They have not had a meeting with us yet, so how can people be saying what they are saying. I can say one thing, here in Wauseon we love to bitch about what we have no clue about!
I think this is one time in all the years I have been there that I have faith in our Committee! They are all trying to do a good job and get the information out to us. I like how they are straight forward and honest. I don't hear the famous words "I'll get back to you on that" and never hear about it again. We had that a lot the last time around!!
This is the one time that we all here in Wauseon need to stand "UNITED" and not "DIVIDED"!! There are some who no matter what are going to try to make this a total mess, but I am going to listen to the people we elected to our Committee!
I'm not the only one who thinks this but some new ones on the committee seem to have no clue about what seniority should mean! We don't need the comment "it is what is !" 3 years is a long time, and I hope we are still here, but it is time to get rid of a couple on OUR committee!!!
