I am trying to figure out how our parents and grandparents survived life? You all are taking the fun out of life with your recalls and safety issues with Children's products. According to you all we shouldn't even let our kids outside or to play with their own toys, pr gadgets we took for granted when we were children...HEY CHANNEL 10 GIVE IT A REST ALREADY, AND LET KIDS BE KIDS!!

If you believe everything in the news about safety around toys, letting kids be kids and play outside, I shouldn't be alive today. I played with toy cap guns, jump ropes, jacks and small balls and all the other recalled toys and probably then some. I'm still here, but if you listen to the "chicken littles" of the consumer safety boards, I should have died before I was 10 because of a recalled toy.

This is the email we received.

<Salutations>

Kroger wants you to know that the data base with our customers' names and email addresses has been breached by someone outside of the company. This data base contains the names and email addresses of customers who voluntarily provided their names and email addresses to Kroger. We want to assure you that the only information that was obtained was your name and email address. As a result, it is possible you may receive some spam email messages. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Kroger wants to remind you not to open emails from senders you do not know. Also, Kroger would never ask you to email personal information such as credit card numbers or social security numbers. If you receive such a request, it did not come from Kroger and should be deleted.

If you have concerns, you are welcome to call Kroger’s customer service center at 1-800-Krogers (1-800-576-4377).

Sincerely,

The Kroger Family of Stores

I work in the information security field professionally, and this kind of thing happens much more frequently than many think. Kudos to Krogers for actually detecting the issue, and for notifying their customer base. Fortunately nothing terribly sensitive was lost.

One of the reasons people of our age was not hurt as bad as kids today, is because our parents did not try and get rich everytime someone scraped their knees.

And if your are 73, I would think you were a beatnik like me and not a Hippie. Enjoy life old person.

Interesting...The only way Kroger would have this information (names, emails) on customers is because it is tied to the "loyalty card" database. The only other customer database they would have would be the POS database, but that would have contained credit card numbers and no e-mail addresses.

So, to participate in their sale/discount program, you must supply them personal information and they, in turn, don't take the appropriate steps to protect this data.

Stay classy, Kroger.

Just to give everyone a bit more information regarding this. The marketing firm Epsilon was breached. This firm handles Kroger's info, as well as other large firms such as Citi and Chase. Both of those companies have also taken steps to notify customers that names and email addresses were compromised.

Epsilon is the marketing arm of another well known area company, Alliance Data Services.

People always call me slow but I would never give my email address to an outfit like Kroger. A grocery store? Give me a break!

I NEVER give my email addy to stores or even my doctors offices. Too easy for someone to "breach" their files or someone at the offices to sell it.

Kroger has their Community Awards program in which they contribute a percentage of our purchases to the community organization we choose. We renew each year by email (or we can go to the service desk in the store). This is one way Kroger would get our email address. I was notified this morning of the breach and I am in the Awards Program.

Beware! Received an e-mail requesting that I update information which listed: credit card information, SSN, name, address, phone #.
It stated that this information was mandatory in order to keep my account open and failure to comply would result in termination of that account. Krogers isn't providing a truthful full disclosure.
