I think that people who choose to live in NJ should not have the right to go to Manhattan to shop. If it's on a referendum and I can get 51% of the people to agree with me,we can then count on your silent compliance?
See how that works?
Now, if you were to say that something like that (essential rights) should never be on a referendum up for popular vote - well then, we're in agreement.
If it were important enough for people to feel it should be voted on then I don't care if there is a vote. Hey you can't buy liquor in NJ and bring it into PA now can ya!

You married, Straightman? Imagine having your loved one lying in a hospital bed and her family doesn't like you, so they bar you from the room? Imagine raising a child with someone for years - she dies and her family takes you to court for custody, even though she left a will with you as guardian - kid ends up in **** state foster program for years or with her family who fill child's head with what a bad person mom and you were. Happy without benefit of marriage (or legally recognized equivalents)?
Being secure that the above won't happen is a benefit, Straightman.
This also happens with straight couple marriages. If you are not biologically the parent the same scenario can happen. I do have a question though, with adoption for gay couples do you both have your name on the papers? Then you legally have rights to the child if you are. I am asking because I really don't know and am not being sarcastic.

I thought this was the case, but got it from an adoption site:
Unmarried couples (partners who are not formally married) have a harder time adopting. When this is allowed at all in the United States, the states consider the adoption to be valid for only one of the cohabitating partners, who is essentially adopting as a single parent. The other partner has no legal responsibility or right to the child. If the couple should dissolve their relationship, the non-adoptive parent would have no legal rights to visitation or any involvement in the child's life. The one exception at this time is the state of Vermont,..
I'm sure you can see the problem here.
