Along with DePuy Orthopaedics Inc.’s recall of its Articular Surface Replacement (ASR) hip systems, many complications also saw light and one of them is what is known as the “DePuy” hip implant metallosis. Metallosis is among the allegations in the several lawsuits that have been filed against Johnson & Johnson’s, DePuy’s mother company. The DePuy hip implant metallosis is the metal poisoning of cobalt and chromium in the soft tissue which could lead a patient to suffer pain and potentially dangerous side effects. The heavy metal build-up particularly chromium and cobalt in the tissue is allegedly caused by the defective design of the metal-on-metal (MoM) ASR hip implants. According to a New York Times article, several orthopedic specialists said that they believed that the design of the ASR cup, which is shallower than some similar devices, was at the heart of the implant’s problems. More information about metallosis could be gleaned from here .

Articles that I've come across in this website have talked about how the metal-on-metal hip implants, particularly those manufactured by the DePuy Orthopaedics Inc., could put patients at risk of having high levels of chromium and cobalt in the body, a condition otherwise known as metallosis. Studies said that metallosis could leave lasting effects on patients even after the implants have already been removed.

With approximately 93,000 patients globally, the ASR XL Acetabular System and the ASR Hip Resurfacing System were recalled after data revealed that the devices fail prematurely in 1 out of 8 recipients. These two devices have been manufactured and marketed since 2003 by DePuy. DePuy is a subsidiary company of Johnson and Johnson who issued a worldwide recall of their hip replacement products. With lawsuits piling up worldwide, DePuy should duly address the hip replacement problems encountered by its clients. It is also best that they would disseminate more information about defective hip replacement symptoms so that the patients would be given immediate medical attention. More information here: .

I read many news about the recalled hip implants but when you hear the personal side of this story you realize how seriously were lives affected by these faulty products. Even those people, with this implant, who doesn't suffered any complications, are always on the edge, worrying when their implant it's going to fail. For the peace of mind of these people, are sites like so important, containing useful information about the recalled systems.

Actually, many orthopedic doctors believe that the company J&J knew their device was flawed from the start and this device was then sell right away to the market without clinical trials that is now many were affected and suffering with this devices. You can read many cases here:

I am getting sick and tired of seeing comments that point patients towards Legal Websites. Patients need to become aware that they do not have to sign with one of these many, many, many, attornies that will not even be litigating anything on their behalf. They just load em up and bring as many clients that they can snag to the Settlement Matrix negotiated by Depuy Attorneys in the best interest of Depuy that leaves all these patients with small settlements. There have to be other alternatives!!

Statistics from the may also tell of the problems encountered by those who have had a hip replacement from DePuy. It can be overwhelming to file a case when one is not yet well-versed to legal procedures.Hip implants by local patients that have a metal on metal materials often lead to worsening of symptoms.

Hearing those news of people suffering due to these implants are horrible. And learning some things about these products during the Kransky trials may only make one more angry. This product was marketed even when there were reports from experts that there might be defects in the design. Further, test were not very favorable. In spite of these, they still continued to market the product which has resulted to thousands of injuries. More on these revelations by checking accounts of the trial by going over articles in DePuy Settlement Information Center.
