Bobbie I'm having the gynecare surgery on May 22,08. Sounds like you made out ok. Any problems-did you stay over night at the hospital and did you have to take any medications afterward?

Any problems-did you stay over night at the hospital and did you have to take any medications afterward? Hello, Marylyin, Good luck to you! It was exactly 2 weeks ago yesterday (Friday) that I had the surgery done. I can tell you what all happened. I had the spinal block done. Because of that, I had to stay at the hospital for about 5 hours, to let the feeling come back in my legs so I could walk. It was a 3 1/2 hour drive from the hospital (nobody locally does this procedure)so that made me kind of sore. The pain I had was only when I would first stand or first sit. Once I was standing or sitting, I was fine. The doc instructed me to not pull, lift, carry, tug, or push anything over 5 pounds for 4 to 6 weeks. I have lived faithfully by what he has told me. The pain wasn't that bad. He gave me pain pills, I took one the night I got home from the hospital, and one the next afternoon. Other than that I have taken no meds. The leakage is alot better now, but I did notice after shopping at the mall last night I did have more leakage than I had expected. I have my first post op visit Monday the 12th, and am looking forward to teh exam to see if everything is okay. The surgery I had was a TVT Prefyx, not the TVT O. It does instill insterting a mesh inside of me. It was made by a different company, it was made by Boston Scientific. If you'd like, you can email me at breezy95@aol.com, there are some things that are personal that I don't want to post on here. Good luck!

Denise wrote: Sounds like you probably have interstitial cystitis. You should see a "uro-gyn". They only treat women and are usually the best at diagnosing and treating it. I was feeling ready for TVT next week until reading this foren. You are the only one who seems satisfied. I am also from MA. should i be worried? The procedure seems pretty simple. Getting nervous, wait for your reply.

My Dr acts as if it is a haircut but it hss come out in at least 3 different places. Are you continuing to have issues??? Reading all of this scares me to death.

Went for my 2 week post op Monday, everything looked good...doctor said my stitches haven't dissolved yet, but that is normal. Still have some leaking, he said I should reach maximum improvement in 4 - 6 more weeks. Hope the leaking completely stops. Take care

Does anyone know where to go to get more specific information regarding the long term effects? I just do not have any idea where to go - don't think a lawyer is the answer but I think my doctor is concerned about a lawsuit and I just want it fixed.

I had the TVT procedure done 2 months ago (by my gyne) and the good news is the leaking is 100% better.
The bad news is I have some vaginal erosion and need to see a specialist (urogyne). I am half sick with worry. Recovery from the procedure has been difficult... I was led to believe it would be a "breeze" and it has been anything but. I am in chronic "discomfort" and sex with my husband is incredibly painful.
I'm not sure how this will end... and I'm scared and beginning to regret having it done.

I have been surfing for months to find this web site, I knew that I wasn't alone. I am from the Phila. area and I had a partial hysterectomy in June 2007, I was told that I could have this safe, minimually evasive procedure done at the same time. It was a sling to stop me from dripping, when coughing or laughing, which wasn't all the time. I agreed and I haven't been the same since. The plastic mesh is protruding through my vagainal wall and causing constant infections and pain. I had another corrective surgey in Oct. 2007 and still the problem exists. I was told by my doctor that it was my fault because I shouldn't have had sex. Since then, I have had two more procudes done in his office, where he has gone in and cut the plastic with no anestisia, no pain medications, nothing. The mesh is still coming through my wall and causing me problems. I don't know what to do, who can I call, who can I see? I am a 44yr old divorced woman with a lot of life left and I feel like it is over. Pleaes help!

I had the TVT-O done on 2/20/08 and I have had no problems whatsoever. For the first time since my son was born 15 years ago I can dance, exercise, sneeze and cough without wetting myself! What a relief this has been! I don't have to wear pantiliners anymore! The TVT-O was the answer to my prayers. I have had no pain, other than pain from recovering from the surgery, my periods are regular and my husband does not note anything out of the ordinary when we make love - Hooray!! I could not be happier, thank you to my very experienced Urogynecologist Surgeon - To anyone out their considering this surgery, make sure your surgeon is BOTH QUALIFIED AND EXPERIENCED before having this done! Very important!!!!! Good luck and good health to everyone!

I went for my 2 week post op this past Monday and still have some leakage, but my dr says I will be at fullest improvement in 4 more weeks. I sure hope so, other than that, I have no problems to report. I had a TVT Prefyx, alot like the TVT O

I'm sorry to hear so many people having problems with this. I had this done in spring 2001 and have had absolutely no problems and am very happy I had it done. So not everyone has problems. I hope everyone who is having problems is able to find solutions.

Well, I have an update. The uro-gynecologist at Magee Women's Hospital in Pittsburgh says the mesh has to come out, it has fully eroded through the vaginal wall. The procedure is scheduled for 3 weeks from now. I just wish it was sooner. The worry and discomfort make the waiting hard.
He will remove all the mesh, except the ends, which apparently will stay imbedded in my groin areas forever. I don't like that, but there's no choice, so I guess I better get used to it.
He did say that in approx. 50% of the cases where women have to have the mesh removed, they remain continent. Something about the bladder neck being in the correct position for awhile, and muscles (and scar tissue) continuing to support it. That would be nice, I'm not looking forward to going back to the daily panty-liners.
He also said that once I am healed I can consider another procedure... the regular TVT (I had the "O" version this time.) Right now I think, "Thanks, but no thanks." But I guess it's nice to know there's at least an *option*.
I told him that my gyne told me I would "breeze through it" and he (the specialist) said most women really do. He says it is really a very successful surgery, which most women tolerate extremely well and never regret. I do believe that. We just don't hear much about them... I guess they aren't cruising around the internet looking for a forum for support.

I wasn't able to really do much for the first 4 weeks while recovering so I am not sure if I would have still leaked then. I am so happy with my results, I hope I don't have any problems in the future. So far so good.

FWIW, after the surgery, I had probably 80-90% continence... laughing, sneezing, coughing, were all fine. But jogging would produce a few drops. My gyne told me to do a lot of Kegels throughout the day, and I did, and honestly, within days, it seemed, I got to 100% dry, all the time.
Like I said, none of my problems are due to the procedure not working! It *worked* great. It's just this pesky, painful vaginal erosion... ;o(

Yes, of course, Mom1965... I was being somewhat facetious, I guess it didn't come across like I meant it to. Sorry.
I well realize it's serious, and yes, actually I do regret having the TVT done in the first place. I know it's not over yet for me, and yes, I'm also very scared.
I just wanted the Bobbi to know that perhaps the Kegel exercises will help her get to 100% dryness.
