The best view of Hartford you can get is the one you get from your rear-view mirror.

It is encouraging to read that the company's leadership is inclined to remain in Hartford. A move to Cityplace would situate UnitedHealth Group closer to the center of downtown, for example. Whether they move a few blocks or remain on Columbus Boulevard, they will simultaneously contribute to and benefit from the wide selection of culinary and cultural options nearby. A downtown location is also of considerable value to employees who would like to commute by transit or live downtown, alleviating congestion in the process.

The best view from Hartford is seeing Bill leave town.

It's absurd how the city has to compete with suburbs.

Why would they stay in downtown Farthard. There is no there, there. Is there some tax benefit, free parking or even decent places for the employees to shop? No? Hartford is pretty much a ghost town, the victim of decades of ill concieved urban renewal, redevelopement and suburban sprawl. It used to be fun working downtown back in the 70's. Things started cetting bad when the department stores closed. The streets don't feel safe to linger after work, so people make a mad dash back to their suburban lives at 5pm. How sad for Hartford. And still there is no good leadership at Silly Hall. With nicer suburban office space plentiful, it's easy to see why a company would go through the trouble of a huge move. Wake up Hartford! You are on life support.

By August 2010 there will be nothing left to move. Comrade Obama will destroy this country's healthcare as we knew it. There still will be private hospitals and practices for the super-rich and connected (Ted Kennedy should not worry), but rest of the population will get the care quality of which will equal to the cost of it = 0.
Ask me how do I know...

City? What city? Did you just call Hartford a city? A cluster of a few tall building doesn't make a city. Boston, Chicago, NYC are all cities. Hartford is not.

Thank you, thank you thank you for your great posting. I am from the NYC area originally and when I moved here I could not believe that people called Hartford a "city". Its a big town, it is by no means a "city"

Poor thing... you have no clue about what is this about. Healthcare as we know it is super costly, Doctors are becoming rich, Hospitals are becoming super wealthy, and companies like UnitedHealth are only buzzards grabbing their thick slice. I prefer UnitedHealth become nothing, reduce the cap to doctors and hospital corporations and have the wealth spread across the system.

Agreed. Hartford is in dire straights. The state needs to double it's funding to help rebuild cities like Hartford. I propose we triple the gas tax to get that accomplished.

If your ISP location (Saint Petersburg, FL) reflects your personal location, it looks like you've beat me to the punch. You've not only left Hartford behind, but left Connecticut behind altogether. My congratulations to you!! You are very wise. And you are more fortunate than those of us that are irrevocably tied to this awful State.

There is a VP of Technology in that building. His name is James Paul Oates. He is the most arrogant manager there and the reason why so many employees are sick of that area is him. He looks like humpty dumpty but thinks he knows more than Bill Gates, and he is more arrogant than Derek Jeter. If I ever see him again, I will bring my rotten tomato along.

Daily Horoscope for December 22

Capricorn

You're swayed by your emotions today, making you susceptible to other people's machinations. Are you putty in the hands of your beloved? Are you willing to do whatever, just to keep the peace? Watch out for the influence of another's black mood, or you'll soon start to feel just as miserable. Fortunately this strange mood won't last long.
