It irks me that corporate runs herd over regional stores telling them how they want things run. the sales people and management have no say so power at all involving their store. you don't have to be a rocket scientist to realize what works in a store in Washington DC may not work in Knoxville,tn. In the shoe dept one can not find size
2 X or wider in any size. I am a 13 EE I have to go online to buy shoes or slippers. for that matter 2X in a shirt. if they need cash why not go after the 10% of customers mentioned above . The buyers from corporate refuse to understand that several company's they buy from in China do not follow US size standards. always undersized,.

ever, regular stock. Those 12 month month sales were for seasonal crap only. Goes like this, you bring in fadist gaudy cheap seasonal stuff, slap on a fake MSRP, a non Fair and Square price for say 2 weeks. Then you put it on a month sale for 4 weeks, the limit you can do this before the sale price either has to go back up or the sale price becomes the regular price. You then use those 2 Friday a month price drops to get rid of this out of season stuff for the next round. That is 2 weeks high profit , 4 weeks more profit than with coupons, and 2 more for the real Fair and Square price, a total of 8 weeks. Yes JCP was more expensive with out store wide coupons. You play the Ronnie's take on coupon deals for seasonal stuff, over pay for anything else. Remember he reduced floor space, was going to double profit. You figure it out.
Ron's total plan was simple, get rid of a commission floor staff, get rid of all real employees, use a minimum staff on the floor to do iPod checkout, get rid of store overhead using cash, use these people to restock, cleanup, work them 20-30 hours a week to be under the health care requirement. Hide the real lost of any consumer service via free haircuts, coffee, wifi, candy, cookies and gelato, yes gelato.

yeah ron was a ax man, only problem he cut costs and destroyed sales volume:(
If his cost cutting had worked he would of been called a genius and other retailers would of followed his lead.
Even ackman knew it was risky, he was quoted as saying if it doesnt work theres always the real estate.:(
