OK so they let Ron Johnson go!!!!

I am sure there was a safety net for him, My question is why the board of directors let it go on so long, unless they liked the idea of getting rid of all the people that have worked for years to obtain good benefits, and the loyal customers they lost because they were too old for the new JCP.

Yes there is life after J.C.Penney 00PS sorry JCP; But the affects it had on conscientious people yes like me that have put many years in is long lasting ,Mr Ullman got his job back and I am sure with good benefits what about the rest of the J.C.Penney workforce.

Ask me why I retired from the company when I was doing well and bringing in revenue.

434: Why doesn't your store have employees with full time hours and benefits? In my department alone, I work with three full time team members and all three have benefits just like always. Two of us are retired from other careers and have at a minimum of 20 hours but that is all we want. All of us in our department have worked at a minimum of five years and the average is more like 9 or 10 years at this store. My former team leader will be retiring this summer after 40 years at this same store. She is a lot of new hats at the store, and like she says "it's a job and I do as my bosses ask". No complaining.

Again, different jcpenney stores must have completely different ways of running the individual stores. Good luck!

laura: Are you saying your store does not have a support team anymore? Maybe it is called something else at your store, but our support team consists of those who refill the shelves and racks and they have regular hours. I think they work 7 or 8AM to 3 or 3:30 every day. The lady who came back to our department full time was support full time. She had to leave our department last year because they couldn't give her enough hours to be full time. They could in support. Now she is back with full time hours in our department. She is NOT an ICAP queen, although I know some who are kept on in another department due to being those queens.

I started working my 20 hours last August in this department that I am in. I had to laugh because since I started in this one, I saw on the national report last week that I am in the top 200 ICAP producers in the country. I would be lucky to get maybe one ICAP PER YEAR in all the years I worked in another department (home of the ICAP queens who do nothing else except stand behind a register). That and catalog orders were my only less then above expectations scores I would get in my annual evaluations - that I was way too low in expectations for ICAPS or jcp.com orders. I would tell them each year that it was difficult to get either when I was one that rarely had much time behind a register. They understood because they saw my efforts in other ways. Now I do both - get a lot of ICAPS as well as maintain the store environment. All of us in our department work together on maintaining the environment. It is rare that I come in the evening shift and the fitting rooms have not been cleaned out by the first shift. I could never say that at the other department of the ICAPS queens. It's more of an everyone for herself type of environment. That attitude continues to be rampant there. Even RJ couldn't break that mold with the pressures to meet expectations and work as a team. I do have to say that one of them in particular was looking at other jobs actively due to her loss of hours just a couple months ago. So, even the ICAP queens were losing their hours if they didn't start multitasking and doing more then that. She's still there.

I am sorry that you are not getting the hours you need to sustain your family. That has to be tough. I have never had to depend on my job at jcpenney's to support myself. It was always a second job to do for fun and to supplement our family income. I am sure that makes a lot of difference. I do have to say that most of the young people I work with and live on their own also have a second job to make ends meet. It might not be a solution that would help in your situation, but it is a reality that living on a retail salary alone is not a very secure way to make a living. It just never hurts to have a back up plan should a job not work out in the long run. I have been there, done that and it really does help to have that back up plan.

In response to JCPTM you are obviously part time and Penney's values you because you are not going to get any great benefits that the people they ushered out had.
The people that have been laid off, let go, or found it best to retire is because of the socialistic environment the company had become,(as in team members); as long a I have worked there all J.C.Penney employees helped each other it was the thing to do we did not need labels, people went in early stayed late, were called at last minute and came in those people were the backbone of the company we were family.
Now the company is running machines ,think alike ,act alike,I understand when you work for a corporation everyone is a part of the whole ,the problem is the people in the fortress really have no clue what is going on below them, they are told by the people manning the walls just what they want to hear.with no insight or foresight.

I really wonder what Mr.Penney would say that is if you kjnow who he was,

Laura stay calm lol.

I will tell you no one will back you up NO ONE just hang in there. That is the corporate way it is all just politics.

All you can do is be a good (O man I want to to puke ) every time I say it TEAM MEMBER.

What makes me smile at this is if you were or are a conscientious person you were always a company member why people need labels is beyond me

Guys...hang in there. There are rumors afoot that the catalog desk & some cash registers will be coming back. Heard this from 2 mgrs. That said, I really don 't mind the ipods. The problem is that the customers mind them & a lot of associates simply can't /don't want to get the hang of them. They are also NOT good for all store applications --such as fine jewelry care plan stuff, etc. They were rolled out without enough forethought.I think that eventually the ipods will be relegated to high traffic times.

Laura: Sometimes I begin to wonder if you really have been an employee for JCPenney. How could you have missed the sales and coupons going on for several weeks now?

For coupons I know we have had at least two with 20% off the past two weekends and then there were all the other ones with $10 off. The sales have also been going on and off starting with the Black Friday sale. There have been others on the holidays, too. Also, I have seen quite a few commercials on tv saying jcpenney at last once in each commercial for at least a month now, too.

Why have you been missing these changes?

I think it sounds like they might be working on helping out those unable to keep up with the fitting rooms. At our store they are eliminating one huge fitting room (I think 8 stalls in there) and changing that space into selling space. That means one less fitting room to clean out for that part of the store.

Again, I disagree with you that all the customers dislike the Libbys. "All" is not the case at all. I saw the new service desk today and it is gorgeous and that will have two registers. That has always been the plan for the store so that rumor that all the registers were going to be taken out, was just that, a rumor. The Libbys are a wonderful tool for us to use when a line is forming or if we are located in an area of the store that would mean the customer would have to travel out of his or her way to get to a register. Those customers in particular like that service.

I didn't intend to sound mean in my first comment but really, there is a lot going on at the stores right now and have been going on that you seem to not be aware of from your posts. Maybe I am just misunderstanding what you are trying to say, but it really has been changing regarding your concerns for awhile now. I hope things work out for you.
