Like many Prop. 8 supporters, DeVore points to the tradition of marriage between a man and a woman as a societal institution for bearing and rearing children.

Funny how they don't go after the millions of single people having children out of wedlock. Or people, including the elderly that marry without the intention of procreating.

Or the many married couples who simply decide not to have children so they can pursue their careers, or for other reasons.

Also, many states allow prisoners who are serving life in prison without the possibilty of parole to marry. Where is the societal benefit there ?

You mean the Menendez brothers ? I didn't know they were married.

In a sense, maybe that's a good thing, because it bolsters our argument that marriage IS a "fundamental RIGHT" protected by the U.S. Constitution.

Oftentimes when a person is convicted of a felony though, many states legally strip those people of their rights such as the right to vote and the right to live in certain places. But I never heard of a convicted felon, incarcerated or not, being denied the righ to marriage.

How can our rights even be "voted" on in the first place?

Prop 8 has no standing.
