Why exactly did Intel do it? Hopefully they will be able to revamp the anti-virus software and make it good. QUOTE "...it's possible Intel devices soon will be able to conduct real-time scanning for viruses and spyware." <-- That's kind of scary. McAfee is already tough to uninstall, let alone if it were embedded into the chipset.

McAfee has been going steadily downhill for quite some time. It's virus software right now has serious bugs that weren't even being addressed. A telling point is that when it was announced that Intel was buying McAfee, Intell stock dropped (only a few percentage points) whereas McAfee stock shot up by about 50%.
Intel may want McAfee as a portal into software applications since the market indicates that the current trend is to mobile rather than desktop and that desktop pc's may eventually die out in favor of tablet pc's (NOT the ipad but more powerful tablet pc's).
