In the coming project we are migrating the mappings and workflows from Informatica 7x to Informatica 8x. Please let me know the process of doing it and also the issues that are faced in any such project

YOu can export the objects from v7 to v8 in the foolwing way.As of my knowledge we cannot migrate the entire folder at a time. But you can migrate all the sources at a time all the targets all the mappings at a time and so on
To do so follow the below. In v7 select the objects needed to be migrated and then
Goto------>repository---- >export objects. It will ask for the location. save them where you can access.
Now if you are migrating bunch of mappings select the mappings tab in particular folder where you want to migrtaed to and Goto----->repository------ >Import Objects.
A wizard will open and there is an option to browse the objects from where you have saved. then you can go ahead easily following the wizard options.

To make it simple for migrating the a part of project folder from one repository to another with latest versions,
1)use repository manager tool to create label and deployment group for the workflow and their dependency (includes mapping,source,target..) which is to be get migrated.this objects will be get stored in the metadata,we can query the meatdata and apply specfic label to move to the upgrading repository.
2)TO move the whole folder (eg:8.1 to 8.6),take a back of the folder in the dummy repository and upgrade it to the latest version, and do folder to folder copy to get compatible with the latest version 8.6.
