this confirms my complaint no first run movies and they showed the stupid fish movies to often. the first run movies as old as they were should have been screened earlier in the day.

I certainly dont want to see a business (and the closest True Imax for a 100 miles) fail; but even with first run movies how could it possibly dtaw 350,000 people a year? The tourists have Imax in their own towns and the locals cant afford $15 a ticket every time theres a major release. My friends and I would occasionally see a movie a second time (Dark Knight, Star Trek XI, 300) when it got to Cannery Row but there was some debate as it meant putting off seeing a first run film.

I miss having the carousel and arcade in the building. It appealed to both tourists and locals and worked for a range of incomes. I think blame for the end of the "Old" Edgewater can be put squarely on mismanagement and neglect by the owners; from the Kane family to the Cowboy Pizza franchise owners. Thanks to them and the Imax Corp looks like Cannery Rows has its next derelict building.

It was doomed from the beginning. The location is not good for such a business, ala Willy'b BBQ. There was nothing to make a local go to the IMAX but maybe once a year. 15.00 for 45 min fish movies won't cut it. The culprit? Cannery Row Company. Those greedy Fgf$%$ won't cut slack on rents on any of their sites. Look at the American Tinn Cannery..empty , empty due to ridiculous rents and leases. Good by Imax..that are is ready for something that ALL can enjoy. Who thinks a tourist comes to MOnterey to go to the movies??

Wanted to see Avatar there but it left before I got around to it. There are 3D movies like Christmas Carol which woulda been nice over the holidays, but I doubt Hollywood allows pick and choose. Too bad. I hate going to Cannery Row due to traffic and parking. Same with downtown Carmel. Leave those for the tourists.

Like someone already said, why would a tourist come to Monterey to go see a movie (even a really, really big movie)? Stupid concept from the get-go. Even more stupid law-suit. You are supposed to do your own due-diligence, not just go by what the franchiser is smoking.

I recently went to the IMAX for a screening of films for the Blue Ocean Film Festival. It was grungy and smelled of stale popcorn. The entrance was weird and very non-inviting. It was obvious the employees were demoralized.

I wonder, just what part of the theatre did the owners put their "heart and soul" into? I didn't see it.

I wish Steinbeck would never have written that book. Then we could have something nice down there instead of parking garages and junk shops.

Avatar 3-D was AWESOME there; center seats, but that was because there were only a total of eight people in the entire theater.

Would have went there more often if they played new movies, everytime we wanted to see a movie, we had to go to Cupertino with the exception of "Sharks". When we went, have to say that most the staff were kids and it looked like they were being forced to work there (drugged?) plus the place was pretty dirty, even after watching the drones walk around cleaning the glass that lines the stairs. So the closure does not surprise me...

My hope is the cine-mark company that runs the Century theaters in Salinas and Monterey take it over they have experience running clean well managed theaters and currently run IMAX with first run movies in many locations across the country.
Delmonte center or even Northridge would have been a better choice on locations.
