Humana, Health Net Fall; Aetna Gains on U.S. Award

Defense Department contracts worth as much as $55.5 billion

Health Net Inc. fell 16.3 percent and Humana Inc . 4.6 percent in New York trading after the managed care companies lost Defense Department contracts worth as much as $55.5 billion.

The department yesterday said it would switch military health benefits to rivals UnitedHealth Group Inc. and Aetna Inc. UnitedHealth, the largest U.S. insurer by sales, fell 14 cents to $24.87, while Aetna, the third biggest, rose 2 cents to $26.35 in composite New York Stock Exchange trading at 10:15 a.m.
