I'm sorry that so many have had a difficult time with their Peace of Mind Claims ~ We've been fortunate that ours was processed immediately and have had positive results ~ The best $30 I've ever spent ~ Perhaps, the individual H&R Block who helped (or actually hindered) you should be investigated. We've never had anything but helpful and quick assistance. Blessings & Peace of Mind to y'all ~ Hoping things work out for all of you!

Class action lawsuit?? I want IN!! got screwed by h&r for over over $10,000. The woman preparing my taxes contradicted ALL my dependents information, in one area, they were my kids, in another they were my niece and nephew and in another one was blood related and one wasn't. After recieving my notification I was being audited for $2000 and that my $8000 refund would be withheld, I immediately brought this to the woman who prepared my taxes and without taking a look at anything kept advising me to "send them what they want" ( mind you, the irs wanted tons of paperwork including birth certificates to prove my blood relation to these children, who I made clear when I filed were not of blood relation to me). After almost a year of trying to clarify this with the irs and h&r block, I thought its time to give up, all they were giving me was the run around. I didn't realize that the mistake was on h&r blocks behalf, so I continued to do my taxes with h&r block for the next 2 years. Every year I explained my situation to the person preparing my taxes, and it was always brushed off. One year, a lady even made me pay her fees upfront since she knew the irs would be taking my entire refund to put towards my rapidly growing balance. The irs continued to hold my refund every year since. My paychecks have been garnished by the irs to put toward this debt. I was unaware that h&r block could have been at fault until this year when I went to a completely different place to get my taxes done. I explained everything to the woman preparing my taxes, which I always do since I know the irs will again be taking my entire refund, I was just interested to see if I had any money coming at all, so I tell her what's going on and after some speculation goes over the tax form with me. She finds the mistake they made and advises me to go back to h&r block and pressure them to fix it. I go to h&r block and speak with the manager there who agrees to start a claim for me. After obtaining all the paperwork he asks for to file this claim, it is submitted, and Lo and behold, I find out my claims been denied. I can't help but feel like I've been scammed. Like I said before, if there's a class action law suit going I want in!!

Dolores,

Your post really doesn't make sense. By law, for the Earned Income Credit, you can't claim kids on your return that you are not legally related to unless you are a foster parent or going through court-ordered guardianship or in the process of adopting. However, if these children lived with you, even though you aren't related, you can claim their exemption only. That is different from the EIC. The IRS has every right to question non-parental claims and they will hold your money, because if you aren't related, then it isn't YOUR money. If you had legal guardianship over these children, then you would have had legal paperwork that all you would have had to do is fax to the IRS and your money would have been released. Sounds like there was more to your situation than you were telling them?

H & R Block had done my taxes for over twelve years and when they came out with the Peace of Mind plan, I took it for a couple of years. Then I was contacted about an error in my taxes and H & R Block told me Sorry about you luck. They do not back their "so called" service and the only thing the Peace of Mind does, is to allow you to go in and give them a piece of your mind on a regular basis. I am still paying the additional $1,200. due to their error. Don't believe a word they say about standing behind you if you get a letter about your taxes. They were suppose to contact me about reimbursing some of the fees that has been over six months ago and they don't return your call. When you go to the office the Manager is always out. So I just tell everyone that is in that office at the time they should go to a credible tax preparer, someone that will back their service

Recent studies indicate that H&R Block sold thousands of "Peace of Mind" contracts to military personel who are active duty, claiming that the Peace of Mind program will help protect them against mistakes in their taxes while on duty in the USA and abroad. The sad fact is H&R Block has cashed in on that warranty program because they only provide a 30-day notification period from the time the taxation office sends notice to the taxpayer. With much of our military active in Iraq, Afganistan and other places, our fine soldiers are unable to respond in person to an H&R Block office in that timeframe. H&R Block is not extending any
courtesy to our troops and simply banking the $30 that our soldiers paid for "Peace of Mind".
If you are a soldier serving in the USA or abroad, purchased the "Peace of Mind program" and have been subject to the same situation where H&R Block will not cover the mistake they made on your tax returns, we highly suggest that you keep an eye out for a pending class action lawsuit. Those who have been taken advantage of will be able to join the lawsuit for representation.
if everyone on here will place their same complaints on the BBB site & a page called "gripevne" they have to answer it or get a bad mark by the BBB & after so many bad marks the can be penalized & it can itself start a class action suit because they keep up with the complaints & may be force to pay out or be shut down...trust me it works...please do this & they will be calling you in no time wanting to right the wrong, because only you can put on there that you were satisfied with the results...pass to all that you know that has been scammed by them..

I am having trouble with my claim also. They have bounced me from contact to contact. After 4 months they called to say they are starting the claims process over again.
I'm interested in a class action suit.

I took the claim to H & R Block the same day I recieved the letter from the IRS. the local office said that it would be taken care of. 1-2 weeks later I recieved a check for 135 dollars from H & R Block saying its not their fault but here is an check to show you that we apologize. WTF Is that not admiting that it was their fault. I haven't cashed the check assuming that it would be an agreement to settle out of court. Does anyone know a good laywer I could contact.? I just want my peace of mind. after all isn't it what I paid for. oh btw I am active duty military.

I received a letter from the IRS a little over a month ago. The amount was close to $5000.00 That they said I owed them. I purchased the piece of mind and when i received the IRS letter I took it to the branch that same day. I also took a copy to my lawyer(cost me nothing) and he sent a letter to H&R Block explaining that I had been audited, that I have made them aware of it, etc etc. So I not only informed them but had my lawyer follow up with a letter also. They Paid $2700.00 and sent a letter explaining why they would not pay the rest....a bunch of lies. I sent that to my lawyer and he sent legal paperwork to H&R Blocks claim center. They have till September 11th to respond to this formal letter. It also informs them that if we do not hear back by this date that we assume that they are unwilling to comply and will take further legal action. My lawyer is free due to where I work, so it's a great asset. I also know 2 people that worked for Block and they said that they would never honor the "piece of Mind" and always had a lame reason why. Do not roll over, sue these people or at least have a formal letter sent and they will take notice!!! Now they have 11 days to fix the remaining amount or it's going to be ugly. This is for my 2011 taxes, but in all this we found that they made the same error for my 2012 taxes. So they have to amend those and pay any money to the IRS or its another lawsuit.
