After reading some these horror stories, so far I have not had a problem with H & R Block, and I hope that I do not. I just sign up with the direct deposit with my job, because we had to, and my first check came 2 days before the date it was to come on, so I liked that.

hr block bank pre-paid emerald card mastercard sucks big time i set up direct deposit and I DO NOT recommend it to any one my paycheck of 1170 is missing vanished into thin air and no one at hr block bank seems to know where it is or how to get it back

I love my card. The only thing i dont like about it is that i cant use it at the gas pump. I have to go inside to pay. Thats a bummer. But all n all its a great card to have. Happy i got it.

'Tis the season, and more Emerald cards will soon be issued with more HR Block tax refunds, I am sure. And the Green Dot card is doing very well (the non-tax refund version of the Emerald Card) I am not sure what the difference is, otherwise. Maybe the maximum balance allowed on the card? Anyway, I got mine last season, Feb of 2007. Never had a problem. It was stolen - I got a new one in less than a week. And didn't lose any of my tax refund for it. And, the new one was personalized - meaning it had my name on it - for the trauma of it being stolen. Having my name on it meant I could use it for more than withdrawels and some online purchases or store purchases which accepted the previous card - it meant I could pay all my monthly bills, etc., as with any other debit card. I have never had a problem with it. Lucky, I guess.

yes I know, and no they are not. There were too many people who did not pay the loan money back so they are refusing to do it this year.:(

That really does suck if they are not doing that Christmas thingy this year.....what a teaser last year to do it & not to do it this year...I could so use some extra $$ for xmas.All they did was take it from the money got back for income tax return so we paid ours back just fine.

Sarah, they are doing an "Emerald Line of Credit" for H&R Block customers. Contact your district office (on the business cards in your packet).

I think it's varying a bit by area. Give your local H&R Block a call and hopefully they'll be able to tell you.

my card has worked fine for me in the past but when i lost it the replacement came when expected but the phones service is not working right as far as me being able to activate the card other than that i have had no problems

The only thing I don't like is that they only let you speak with a representative once a month, then after that they charge you an astronomical fee of 2.50!!!!

I have had the Emerald Card for almost one year now and during that time have felt like my MONEY HAS BEEN SLOWLY DISAPPEARING in small dribs and drabs. One dollar and some cents here, up to five dollars and some cents there. Well one day I decided to monitor the pattern overnight. Sure enough!!! Five dollars and fifty four cents was gone and for no reason?? I called customer service and their representative and their manager could not account for the loss in money. They decided to sent it to a special department to investigate the matter. They said I would get a call back in 24 hours and I did not. I had to call them back and the rep said that they take up to six business days to get back to you.......well still no phone call. Tonight I noticed another funny transaction!!! A Restaurant put a hold on my card for $25.41 (the restauant's POS machine held the proper amount plus a tip) I did not add a tip to the card so....the tip would naturally drop off. The proper amount was finally posted and the tip amount was sapposed to drop off. My Emerald Card account on-line shows the proper amount that was posted. As far as the accounting goes....Emerald Card took the original amount with the tip plus one dollar and subtracted the amount from my balance!!!! So $26.41 was subtracted from my balance!! The purchase was only $21.60??? Now I have another problem to look into. I HAVE A FEELING THAT THEY MUST HAVE BEEN DOING THIS SNEAKY THING WITH MY TAX RETURN MONEY TOO!! WHO KNOWS HOW MUCH I HAVE LOST. Needless to say, I am going to stop my payroll deposit with them and I will certainly never put any money on this card again. In the trash you go Emerald Card. I sure hope that someone starts a class action suit.

To correct a previous post H & R Block IS DOING THE XMAS LOAN. I just talk my Tax prep and she confirmed that it is taking place DEC 10TH.

All you have to do is buy a money order, and pay it with that!!

Evidently you cannot buy a money order with a credit or debit card. Money orders must always be purchases with money, hence the term 'money' order. I tried this once before and it was a no go. Just an FYI.
