I filed my taxes on 01/23/07, and received a confirmation that it was accepted by IRS on 01/24/07. I requested and paid for a RAL 1-2 day loan; however after Friday 01/26/07 passed and no funds I called H&R block on Saturday 01/27/07 they double checked their records to make sure it said the 1-2 day classic RAL, and that the card sequence # was input correctly and both were correct, so they referred me to the H&R Block Emerald Card customer service. They provided me with 800#'s to IRS to make sure I had no federal debt (there was no debt), and the HSBC bank, which stated "Your return has been deposited on to your H&R block Emerald card". So I checked my card balance, still at 0. I spent 3 hours on the phone between H&R block, the card company and several other 800#'s and no one could tell me why the money wasn't there b/c according to their records the money had been deposited. I was told by the card company to wait until Monday for the funds would most likely be there, and that they were sending my case to their "escalations" dept. Monday came, no funds, they said to wait until Tue. Tuesday passed, no money they said they were forwarding my case to their "funding research" department and that they noted to treat the case as an "emergency" and I would receive a call within 24hrs. I received no call so I called back today 01/31/07 and the rep stated there was no record of my case being referred to a "funding research" dept and that there was nothing he could do but forward my case to the "client card" dept and that I would receive a call w/in 24hrs. After 5 days, granted it's only been 3 business days they said it was still being worked on saturday and sunday by "escallations", why has no one been able to figure out why the money won't deposited on the card? After 5 days someone should be able to pinpoint what the problem is and what the estimated time of fixing it should be. H&R block says they don't know if they can refund me the full price of the loan b/c it appears as if the fault is with the card company and not them! What is that s*** about! H&R block offered a service, I paid for that service they should refund my money on a service they were promoting and not able to deliver on. It smells of fraud to me. Has anyone had this problem with the Emerald card and figured out what the problem is and how it can be resolved. I am in great need as I used all my rent money on other bills b/c I was ensured by Hr block that I would have the money w/in 1-2 days. Please help!

Help from readers that are H&R block employees accepted, please try to redeem your companies promises!

You should have been advised that the limit on withdrawals atan ATM are set by the bank that owns the ATM and not H&R Block bank. As with most of the negative comments on this site, the problem seems to be communication at the time of tax prep or consfusion at the H&R Block bank. Both problems arise because this is the first year for the product. I hope that anyone with a serious complaint here contacts H&R Block or H&R Block bank formally to convey there problem.

Just wanted to add that the H&R Block Tax Preparer said that I would be able to withdraw $500 at a time with a $1.50 fee for the transaction at the ATM. But the truth of the matter is, the MAX amount that I was able to take out was $200 with a $1.50 fee for each of the withdrawals that I made! Cost me quite a bit!

Th Emerald card is a great product, some rollout problems, but really only for those who do not have a checking account. If you already have a checking account, direct deposit is the best way to go, but if you need the money fast and get a IRAL or RAL then take a check. It costs more than the card but would be more suitable for you.

This card sucks!! Had $8,700 refund put on it and have no way of getting the cash out of it. My Credit Union wont let me pull the cash off it. Then most atm will only let me pull $250-300 a transaction. You can do the math but cost a boat load of fees to pull it all this way. Then the idiots at H&R Block are clueless #1 was that there would be no probs trying to get my cash from the card, my bank will do it for me #2 was when i tried to get them to take card back, to no avail and I even paid $200 bucks so i could get my cash the same day it did taxes. To make this long story little shorter I had to cancel card and in 7-10 days i will get my check. So i just pissed away $200 bucks to learn this Very Very costly lesson. H&R needs to stay with taxes and get the hell out of banking. Then about 3 hours after I canceled card The idiots called me back and told me I could go to Wells Fargo and they would cash it for me. Well why in the hell didnt they have their crap together and tell me this in the first place and can't say for sure if that would work because i'm waiting 10 days for my check. I have been going to H&R block for over 16 years and paid $375 just to get my taxes done this year plus the 200 for the RAL. And after their incompentent agent told me how easy it would be to get my cash off the card and convinced me to get that dam emarld card they have lost my business for good. I can pay a Certified Acct. to do my taxes for $500 bucks and bet he'll find a way around that AMT I keep getting hit with. Good Luck to all, especially if you are gonna get the card to save a $100 bucks then try to pull the cash off it to put in a checking or savings acct.

I recently took advantage of the HR Block Holiday loan and had no problems with the loan process. The problem started when I took advantage of the offer to have my payroll directly deposited to a pre paid Emerald Master Card provided by HR Block Bank. My first paycheck went on the card with no problems but the following week my card was deactivated by someone at HR Block Bank and my payroll was rejected by the HR Block Bank. At least that is what HR Block Bank claims has happened. I contacted my pay office to see if the money had been returned to them and they provided me with a Federal Reserve Trace and Routing number which showed that HR Block Bank had in fact recieved the money. HR Blocks explanation for the deactivation of my card was that I was to recieve a personalized Emerald Master Card as a result of choosing the direct deposit of my paycheck. HR Block was not supposed to shut the pre paid card in my pocket off until I activated the new personalized card. The problem with that explanation is that I have not recieved the personalized card and now I have no way to retrieve my paycheck. The folks at HR Block also stated that the personalized card will not arrive for approximately 10 business days which means that I will have no access to the money that MAY or MAY NOT be on the card until after Christmas. We have been through multiple layers of phone calls and emails with HR Block and NO ONE seems to know how to resolve this. The last call was an admission that the card should have not been deactivated but tough luck with finding my paycheck. We contacted the Ohio Attorney General Office and have been told that they will refer this case to the Hamilton County, Ohio prosectors office. We have also been in contact with all of the local media outlets here in Cincinnati in the hope that one or more of the local investigative teams might see a story in this. In the meanwhile I have been without my paycheck for five days now. I stopped all future direct deposits to the Emerald Prepiad Master Card and will NEVER utilize another HR Block Service. I would like to know if anyone else has experienced a similar problem with the HR Block Emerald Card.
YES, I PAID MY PHONE BILL WITH THE CARD WHICH AT THIS POINT ONLY HAD $100.00 ON IT. INFACT A TOTAL PAYMENT OF $300.00 WAS NEEDED SO WE CANCELLED THE TRANSACTION AND TOOK IT OUT OF MY CHECKING ACCOUNT. THE LOCAL PHONE COMPANY REFUNDED THE MONEY AND GAVE ME PROOF OF THIS TRANSACTION. I CALLED CUSTOMER SERVICE SEVERAL DAYS LATER WHEN I NOTICED MY BALANCE WAS STILL .50 CENTS. HANDR BLOCK CARD SERVICE CLAIMS THE PHONE COMPANY DID NOT RETURN THE MONEY AFTER 13 calls I EVEN HAD THE PHONE COMPANY CONFERENCE CALL H AND R BLOCK CARD SERVICE THEY STILL CLAIMED THEY COULD NOT FIND THE MONEY. I TALKED TO SEVERAL SUPERVISOR AND ONE WEIRD GUY WHO CLAIMED HE WAS A SUPERVISOR TO DATE I STLL HAVE NOT GOTTON THE $100.00 BACK. SOUNDS LIKE H AND R BLOCK LIKES CLASS ACTION LAW SUITS

Wow...What a scam. Not only have I had problems with ATMs with this card (shorted me money) but I also had a double debit of $200 when I paid my phone bill. When you call the 800 number on the back of the card, there are no humans to talk to. I wish I had done more research before I accepted this card. If anyone knows how to pursue getting my cash back I would greatly appreciate it. I will never use H&R Block again.

I filed my taxes on Jan 23 and was approved for the RAL. Well according to HSBC who is the bank that approves the loan, the funds were sent to the H&R Block card and available for use on Jan 24. Well needless to say, I have still not been able to use my card. Each time I call, they tell me that they are just waiting for the funds to upload to the card, they are there, they just haven't uploaded yet??? What kind of @@@@ is that???? I was told on Tuesday the funds would be available on Wednesday, On Wednesday, I was told they would be available Thursday, Well now it's Friday and still no money??? I don't know what else to do??? The first IRAL that I got, I didn't have a problem with, it all went through within hours and I was very happy, but now I am not so sure.

The card is very helpful for those that don't have bank accounts - in fact for those of you complaining about being charged 1.50 at the ATM machine are probably the same people that complained about paying 2-3% of their check for having someone cash it. By the way Block is not making money off of either of those choices. If your bank is charging 15.00 to take money from the debit card to open an account - again that is not block - pick a different bank to do business. I have also heard that you can not use the debit card to pay for gas at the pump - you have to walk inside and pay them with the card - it will work! Those that lost your debit cards or had them stolen - you should be lucky if you receive anything - it is a debit card not a credit card, take it off next years taxes as a theft just like if someone robbed of your cash! In addition, you can receive part of your money on the card and part of it on a check or direct deposit, however you like, rather than everything together.

I have had my card for awhile now. I haven't had any issues. I was told by h&r block what the deal was and they were straight with me. They gave me a brochure for any unexpected questions. I was given 3,000 at which point 300 became available on the card immediately then an hour later the rest came on. i was told the rest would be on in 48 hours so I was excited about their promptness. I haven't had any issues withdrawing money at an atm. I withdrew over 600. for rent and had a small fee of like 1.50-2.50! So for me...without a checking account and to be able to trackmy purchases on their website I am grateful. I am very sorry everyone is having a hard time with it. I will certainly use it again next year.
However, I do have questions if anyone can answer them. How do I deposit more money on the card? Not my paycheck (I am a waitress and only get paid 2.13 an hour) but cash? I heard walgreens but you have to pay 5 bucks a transaction...is this true? Does anyone one know?
