I recently was approved for a holiday loan with H&R Block. Everything went through okay. I also requested a personalized card in the mail and received and activated it without any problem.

However, I made one mistake. After the arrival of my personalized card, I was suppose to throw the first (original card) away. Instead, I threw the personalized one away by accident and when I tried to make a purchase on Ebay it would not go through and I realized why.

I would like to say however, like murphy's law, things will go wrong. We should never trust our lives to fallible systems like cards that don't have the backing of a large banking institution with F.D.I.C. In this society, we need to go where it is safe, and there is a live person (customer service rep) where we can vent our frustrations face to face. That is just common sense. There are so many scams today. I am not implying that H & R Block is operating in that fashion, but there are,in fact, other outfits out there that are seeking similiar access to our money ( via direct deposit and other ways) and they may or may not be honest. We must use wisdom in all things. Convenience is great, but wisdom is a must!

My prayers go with all of you who have had bad experiences with this program and others. But remember, everything that sounds good may not be.

God bless all of you.

You guys are all lucky you dont have the russell simmons rushcard he receives ss payments, tax refunds and payroll then blocks the cards with as much as $5000.00 on it and keeps it blocked for as long as 60 days having the customer fax documents that still dont get the card unblocked. It seems like a form of embezelment because he is collecting % off millions so this h&r block card is a better deal if you at leat get to use it and also Rushcard allows you to withdraw $2000.00 a day

I have had the same problem, I'll never use this card again, it cost me 6 bucks to take 600.00 out of the atm, which is insane, it's my money, not theirs. Next time, I'm taking the check, that way I know I have it.

I have had my card for about 2 weeks and the only thing that makes it difficult for me to use is my normal monthly bills cannot be paid by using this card. I do not like the fact that I have already paid a large chunk of money to process my returns and I get charge $1.50 by HR and 2.00 from my own banks ATM to make a cash withdrawal.
For normal merchants purchases I have not had a problem and I like the fact that I can see my card activity immediatley. I most likely will NOT do this next year, but I did because I am changing banking institutions and did not want my returns placed in my account. I wanted to use my card to open my new accounts but I hear there is a $15.00 charge to take monies from my card at the bank and place in my new account ( or any account for that matter) Everyone nickels and dimes us to death.....

I just wanted to let the card holders know I received my card on 1/20/2007, when I had my taxes done. I received an instant money loan, and had $788 of my $2,700 deposited within one hour. Within two hours the remaining balance was deposited. I am a repeat customer of H&R Block and I will go back next year!
My tax advisor at H&R Block explained all of the information about the card, the fees, etc... to me before I applied for the card. And I was sure to ask any questions I couldn't find the answers to on the literature she gave me.

I got a refund anticipation loan at the beginning of January with my pay check stub. The refund loan was put on the H&R Block Emerald card with no problems. I was wondering if now that I just received my W-2, if I could file online and save money that way and then pay back the amount of the loan when I get my refund? I just want to avoid paying the high fees. Does anyone know if this is a possibility?

FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO HAVE A HR BLOCK CARD, IT IS A PAIN IN THE BUT. THE FINANCIAL THAT I WORK AT HAS TO VERIFY THESE CARDS BY CALLING THE 1-800 # ON THE BACK. WE ARE ON HOLD FOR 30 MIN OR MORE TO VERIFY THIS CARD. WE ALSO CHARGE A FEE TO USE IT AT OUR FINANCIAL IF YOU DONT HAVE AN ACCT WITH US. SO YOU HAVE A FEE FROM HR BLOCK OF 15.00 FOR A CASH ADVANCE PLUS A BANK FEE JUST TO GET YOUR MONEY. THE TYME MACHINE CAN ONLY GIVE U 200.00 A DAY. THE CARD IS VERY INCONVENIENT. THIS IS THE DUMBEST THING THAT SOMEONE THOUGHT OF. IT IS LIKE A SCAM THAT A PERSON CANT EVEN GET THERE MONEY. PEOPLE CANT EVEN USE THIS TO PAY FOR A LOAN ONLINE. THE DUMBEST THING IS THAT THE CARD SAYS HR AND BLOCK CLIENT. SO YOUR NEIGHBOR COULD STEAL YOUR MAIL AND GO SHOPPING, AND WHAT ABOUT IDENTITY THEFT. THEY CAN USE IT ONLINE IF THEY KNOW ALL ABOUT YOU. LISTEN EVERYONE STICK TO THE CHECKS AND WAIT FOR YOUR REFUND LIKE EVERYONE ELSE, ITS CHEAPER.

Yes, you can repay the loan any time before February 19th. Including doing the return by yourself.

I am having huge problems with this card as well... I did my tax refund with it, and eventhough the IRS sent my funds... they wont load them on my card until the 15th day. I am seriously thinking about filing a class action suit for fraud. They are collecting interest for 10 additional days on 10,500 dollars. If this happenes to just 100 people that is alot of money they are getting fradualntly. H & R Block told me ... it isnt us its the bank... I said you indorsed the card and your name is on the card. you cant wash your hands of it when your hands have stains from it.

Dont get the card!

The card also works if you press "credit" instead of debit. The funds come out of the same place. For some reason, the cards work this way with gas staions only. Your purchases are protected when you use the Credit option.

i tried using my h&r block mastercard tonight. After pumping gas i found out my card would not work. I called customer service and received no help. So i was left standing out in the cold for 1 hour at the gas station because my card could not be used. The customer service rep could not help me pay for my gas! My money was on the card but not available. I will never use H & R block again if this is how they treat their customers.

Hi, I work for Block. It sounds like you received a Refund Anticipated Check (RAC). This involves the IRS sending your refund to the bank, then the bank deducting fees (their 29.95 bank fee plus H&R Block tax preparation fees) and then they send the money to you, on the card or direct deposit. It actually varies between 8 and 15 business days, depending on how long the IRS takes to send your refund to the bank. The bank is only making the 29.95 from you. When people electronically file their taxes it always takes between 8 and 15 business days for the IRS to direct deposit their money - no matter who you file through. If you e-file and have them send you a check in the mail it takes 2 to 4 weeks, sometimes longer. Hope this clarifies things.

As a Bank Teller, I am very fustrated with these cards. When customers want a cash advance we need to call the verification phone # on the back of the card. It takes more than 30 min to get through. We dont have time for this. We havnnt gotten through yet. We have to turn the customers away, if we cant verify this card. What kind of customer service are we providing. This card DOES NOT work at all financials if you want a cash advance. HR Block tells a different story to each person on how they can use this. What is the right story? They have no answers of why this card doesnt work. I think HR Block needs more training about this card. I dont think that they consider the financials point of view. They dont understand that we also charge fees for a cash advance. Also as a financial we need to verify this card and be provided with the right identification. So for example a married couple has a card. You only get issued one card. So one person signs the card. The spouse wants to use the card, but the other spouse wants a cash advance. The other person cant get the cash advance, because that is not there signature on the back. Besides how do we as a financial that they are married. This whole card thing has upsetted a lot of people. This card is more of a rip off then anything. Dont get the card go with a check.
