I recently took advantage of the HR Block Holiday loan and had no problems with the loan process. The problem started when I took advantage of the offer to have my payroll directly deposited to a pre paid Emerald Master Card provided by HR Block Bank. My first paycheck went on the card with no problems but the following week my card was deactivated by someone at HR Block Bank and my payroll was rejected by the HR Block Bank. At least that is what HR Block Bank claims has happened. I contacted my pay office to see if the money had been returned to them and they provided me with a Federal Reserve Trace and Routing number which showed that HR Block Bank had in fact recieved the money. HR Blocks explanation for the deactivation of my card was that I was to recieve a personalized Emerald Master Card as a result of choosing the direct deposit of my paycheck. HR Block was not supposed to shut the pre paid card in my pocket off until I activated the new personalized card. The problem with that explanation is that I have not recieved the personalized card and now I have no way to retrieve my paycheck. The folks at HR Block also stated that the personalized card will not arrive for approximately 10 business days which means that I will have no access to the money that MAY or MAY NOT be on the card until after Christmas. We have been through multiple layers of phone calls and emails with HR Block and NO ONE seems to know how to resolve this. The last call was an admission that the card should have not been deactivated but tough luck with finding my paycheck. We contacted the Ohio Attorney General Office and have been told that they will refer this case to the Hamilton County, Ohio prosectors office. We have also been in contact with all of the local media outlets here in Cincinnati in the hope that one or more of the local investigative teams might see a story in this. In the meanwhile I have been without my paycheck for five days now. I stopped all future direct deposits to the Emerald Prepiad Master Card and will NEVER utilize another HR Block Service. I would like to know if anyone else has experienced a similar problem with the HR Block Emerald Card.

Yes on the 9th of December I had my card along with my wallet and all the cash I had stolen and I am still on the 22nd waiting patiently for my new card to arrive by mail. not that being robbed wasnt bad enough now i am just sitting her a single mother of two praying that i will have it before the fat man is suppose to come on the 25 which seems far more likely than me doing any more business with HR block OR MASTERCARD.

I recieved the card shortly after thanksgiving and I havnt had ANY problems with the card. It actually has help me save alot of money by loading my monies on the card rather than having the cash in my pocket to spend. I think twice about spending the cash now that I have the card. Thanks for the Emerald card it's helping me save money. I would recommend this card to anyone.

I have had no problems at all with the card. I thought ahead of time to know that mortgage payments cannot be made using the prepaid card but it does come in handy to have some money placed on the card to accomplish online shopping. You just have to think about how much you need to pay out in bills that cannot be paid by this card and keep that money in your bank. As a matter of fact, I used this card the night I got it and my purchase went through right away at a retailer and I also withdrew money from my banking account the same day too. Another plus is that the monthly maintenance fee is cheaper than other prepaid cards that can be purchased.

I recently purchased airline tickets with my HR Block emerald card and was double billed ($1596). I contacted the airline and they didn't do this, but the HR Block Bank did. I had my attorney look at the situation and we were put on hold for 45 minutes and absolutely nobody could help us. I received all the paper work from the airlines and they verified it wasn't them. Needless to say I have not yet received my overpayment of $1596. This company is a rip off and I do plan to seek legal compensation.

I have called hr block, card holder services, and even the bank that does the loans with absolutely zero help hoping that maybe the rest will show up soon but i have a feeling that it wont so ne one have any ideas? It sounds like to me ( a senior tax preparer with block 11 years) that the amount of $4998.60 is your "estimated refund". The amount that was probably approved for the IRAL was $500 less the fees due to the bank and tax prep fees to give you a balance on your card of $288. Since the bank may not of approved you full the full refund amount it will turn into a "classic RAL" which is a 1-2 day check if the bank approves it, if not it turns into and RAC which is an 8-15 day check. The IRAL and RAL are both based on bank approval. The above dates are all based on when the IRS accepts the return.
Any questions please ask and I will try and help!!!

I have had my card for about 2 weeks and the only thing that makes it difficult for me to use is my normal monthly bills cannot be paid by using this card. I do not like the fact that I have already paid a large chunk of money to process my returns and I get charge $1.50 by HR and 2.00 from my own banks ATM to make a cash withdrawal.
For normal merchants purchases I have not had a problem and I like the fact that I can see my card activity immediatley. I most likely will NOT do this next year, but I did because I am changing banking institutions and did not want my returns placed in my account. I wanted to use my card to open my new accounts but I hear there is a $15.00 charge to take monies from my card at the bank and place in my new account ( or any account for that matter) Everyone nickels and dimes us to death.....

i tried using my h&r block mastercard tonight. After pumping gas i found out my card would not work. I called customer service and received no help. So i was left standing out in the cold for 1 hour at the gas station because my card could not be used. The customer service rep could not help me pay for my gas! My money was on the card but not available. I will never use H & R block again if this is how they treat their customers.

Just wanted to add that the H&R Block Tax Preparer said that I would be able to withdraw $500 at a time with a $1.50 fee for the transaction at the ATM. But the truth of the matter is, the MAX amount that I was able to take out was $200 with a $1.50 fee for each of the withdrawals that I made! Cost me quite a bit!

The amount that you can take out at one time all depends on the atm machine that you are using. They all have different limits depending on which bank owns the atm.

I filed my taxes on Jan 23 and was approved for the RAL. Well according to HSBC who is the bank that approves the loan, the funds were sent to the H&R Block card and available for use on Jan 24. Well needless to say, I have still not been able to use my card. Each time I call, they tell me that they are just waiting for the funds to upload to the card, they are there, they just haven't uploaded yet??? What kind of @@@@ is that???? I was told on Tuesday the funds would be available on Wednesday, On Wednesday, I was told they would be available Thursday, Well now it's Friday and still no money??? I don't know what else to do??? The first IRAL that I got, I didn't have a problem with, it all went through within hours and I was very happy, but now I am not so sure.
