We filed our taxes with H and R Block. We paid $244 dollars. The problem is they made a huge mistake. They didn't include our mortgage etc. basically it ended up being an 1100.00 mistake. We would have gotten an extra $1100. We caught the mistake pretty quickly...within an hour of leaving the office and called them back and they agreed they had made a mistake. They then told us we would have to file an amendment and that now it will take 3 months to get our refund back. This doesn't seem fair since it was their mistake........they should have at least refunded our fee for filing. Will this affect our stimulus check?

it depends on when the return was filed but they may delay the rebate checks due to the fact that the tax liablity is going to change. So I would need to know more about the situation because the IRS has to review the ammended return by hand so it will take longer for them to process.

Read the fine print at the bottom of your contract. Even if did not buy a peace of mind guarantee you are still covered. They do a good job of not letting you know that. One other thing is the next time this happens if you decide to use them again. Do not amend the tax return until after you have received your refund. HR block will be responsible for all of the additional charges. I worked for them this tax season and I am embarrased. I would never work for them again. After they get the money for your fees and all they have no use for you until next tax season. They are not helpful at all. I witnessed unprofessionalism and rudenes until I could not take it any more. I hope I helped.

Thank you. I was very surprised at how we were treated. Never again!!! We usually do our own taxes. However, we had adopted a little boy two years ago and my husband's place of employment reimburses a portion of the cost of adoption. They made a mistake and paid us twice so therefore our w2's were incorrect. We tried repeatedly to get an amended w2 and never did get one. So we weren't sure what to do so we went to H & R Block. So basically we were trying to do the right thing by reporting to his employer that they had overpaid us.........we had to pay the extra money back..........never did get the amended w2..........plus the headache of dealing with H& R block. Whewwww.......what a tax season!!

We received a notice from IRS.
The amount on w2 was input correctly.
When H & R Block calulated 1040, the w2 tax was doubled. The result , we owe the IRS. Has anyone
else had the problem?

We filed our taxes in February 2008 and paid the amount we owed by check to the IRS ($224). We thought everything was okay. When the time came for our stimulus rebate check to come, we didn't get it. We were supposed to get it around the 27th of June. I called the IRS on the 15th of July and asked why we didn't get it. The IRS said they got our tax payment of $224 but no 2007 taxes were recorded. I called H&R Block and asked why and they said they could not tell me why but would file them electronically immediately. I checked the next morning with the IRS and tthe taxes were sent and accepted. Now we must wait at least another 8 weeks to get our stimulus check. H&R Block's answer was they just didn't know what happened and "Barb" the employer of 30 years couldn't have made a mistake of not sending them. I think Barb had a bad day and forget to submit out taxes. They offered nothing to us. Just an OOPS!

it is important to understand that all offices are franchises. my mother in law has an office in lynchburg ohio and it is her livelihood. She has been doing taxes for 30 years. the fees that are paid do not come to her office only 20% the rest go to hr headquarters. she often discounts people because she is struggling just like everyone else.all people are not the same everywhere. she is kind, helpful and stays open all year to help people with questions. she is the only one open all year long. she takes calls all day and stays open from 9am to 9pm during tax season. yes there are bank fees and such to get a loan product such as the IRAL or RAC that is not the franchisee's fault that is just want the bank charges and you have no choice but to go by their rules. please come have a better experience or call her and you can drop off or mail to her so she can do them. please she is a christian woman who cares about you and everyone else.

No this will not affect your stimulus check. You will still get. And your right I would have refunded your fees and you should not have to ask

I am a divorced mother of 2 teens.. 18 & 17. They both live with me. I own my own home. I have a good federal job... I make about $56,000 a year. I had a part time job, which I made about 1,000 in about 3 mos. How is that I could end up having to pay the IRS in taxes filed the amount of 500 for the Federal and 200 for State? H & R Block filed my taxes for me... Should I ask someone else to recheck them again?

People think just because they're single with kids, that they shouldn't owe any taxes. You said you made over $57,000. You are Head of Household with 2 kids, which means the 1st $19,350 is not taxable. Using standard deduction, your taxable income is around $37,650. The kids are both too old for Child Tax Credit, so you lost $1000 this year for the youngest. You make too much for Earned Income Credit, so your tax will be approx 15% of the taxable income. You should be having at least $5,650 Federal tax withheld for the year. If not, you will owe. That has nothing to do with who prepares your tax return - it has everything to do with how much you make and how many exemptions you claim during the year on your W4. Maybe it's time for you to talk to a tax professional about adjusting your W4 to have enough withheld to cover your tax bill - especially since the oldest may be moving out soon and you will lose his exemption, making you owe even more.

I have had H&R Block do my taxes for the past 6 years. I just recieved a form from the IRS requesting that I prove I was Head of Household and show proof that I could claim my child. According to my divorce decree it was my year to claim him,(H&R Block did not request a copy of my divorce decree)Anyway, they are now saying that I should have never claimed Head of Household. I stated that I went to them because Im tax stupid and they are supposed to be the "tax proffesionals"!I got the Peace of Mind Ins. It means nothing. How can I prove that it was H&R Blocks error? Do I have any other recourse?

I had my taxes done in 2010 and got the peace of mind coverage on it. I got a notice just recently from the IRS saying I owe almost $3000.00. At that time I was still a college student and didn't make much at my job. I totally forgot about this with a move I had to do and when I filed this year I got a notice saying I wasn't getting anything back and I still owe more money. Does anyone know If I get my 2010 returns looked at again and a mistake is found if I will get my money from this year?
