The bridge over 17th street that was
built twice due to faulty concrete. Is now the night mare foreseen by any one not profiting from the bridge construction project, instead of a tunnel. The sailboat capital of the world still needs the bridge to go UP. Traffic has not improved only gotten worse. Enjoy the view of the span in the vertical position, lots of luck for any new hotel anywhere near that porkbarrel called the bridge over 17 street. What an embarassment, compared to what could have been. For the same money squandered, and we are screwed again. |

Would it kill the developer to propose a decent looking building in this town for a change? Other cities have "landmark buildings"....Fort Lauderdale settles for bland and boring structures. If they're going to block our views and congest our traffic, we should at least have something worthy on our skyline.

"It looked like a plan that would be dead on arrival," Naugle said. "It was hugging the bridge and right on the water. Views are important, and this blocks views."
Here is our stupid mayor, making a fool of himself, yet again. The Hilton project does not same issues with neighborhood residents in terms of the view as the Sails project. The Sails project virtually on top of the neighbors. The Hilton is across the water next to the Convention Center. What is Naugle complaining about now? The view from the bridge? That's just stupid. But, considering the source, I guess it's not surprising. |

It is far too early in the process to assume anything about the proposed hotel. No neighborhoods have seen the project, no public input has been requested, norhas the county made any effort to find out about the needs of the surrounding communities or SE 17th Street Causeway.
Most importantly, is there an adequate requirement for that number of rooms along that corridor and what price range will the rooms be? Those kinds of questions will tell you who will need to use a car or taxi, potentially when to expect maximum capacity and whther it will compliment the Convention Center and encourage a better and more productive use of that facility. This is not so much about what the people at Points of America like or Harbor Beach down the road, it is what is best for the community and its economy. Let's see what they have to offer, let's work to make it work and let's stop sentencing things to death before the public even can participate. |

SO NAUGLE SUPPORTED THE SAILS PROJECT ACROSS THE WATER 100% BUT NOW SAYS THIS PROJECT IS DEAD BECAUSE OF BLOCKING OF VIEWS EVEN THOUGH THE SAILS BLOCKED MORE VIEWS.......GUESS THERE IS NO BUSINES INTEREST IN THE DEAL FOR HIM!!! LOL

Has anyone witnessed the incompetence of the county commission on this issue recently???? Very few of them have any idea what's going on, where it stands, what it'll cost, etc. It reminds one of the runway issue. These projects have been screwed up for years, and then Rodstrom will ask, does anyone know how much this is really going to cost?? Are you kidding me?? THis group is in charge of our tax dollars?? Wexler will never get these things done. She's simply not bright enough. Please vote this group out!!!

Small obstacles to overcome...

Who's water views? The few houses that hug the water? No view is ever guaranteed ANYWHERE. The convention center is going to flounder until a major hotel is built. This city is really is all messed up. They fight for the rights of only a few people and screw the rest of the city.

Fort Lauderdale residents who do not live in expensive waterfront homes are able to enjoy the waterfront views of the port as they ride over the 17th Street Bridge, If the approaches to the Intracoastal are blocked on the south western side, the portside view is destroyed. Not Good. Same if the building is a ugly thing that screws the site.
Best everyone slow down and wait to see how the plans work. |

The downtown skyline blocks my view of the Southwest...

If the proposed use of the land was ok"d then tough titty! It is a little late to reverse the decision after the construction has been started!
|

Yes we need another no tell hotel. The El Palacio and Red Roof can't handle the traffic. Did the city commisioner ask anybodies opinion before they approved this?
|
||||

Low price?
Hookers! WOO HOO! |

"Oakland Park to review whether hotel would increase crime, traffic".
If I were the land owner and I purchased the property with the understanding that I could build an economy hotel. Then I would already being suing the community for bringing my job to a halt. A lot of the problems have come from Royal Palm. I would go after each and everyone of the condo owners to cover the costs associate dwith any delays to my project! |
