"Americans still see motorcycling as a leisure activity and not as part of a daily commute."

Why? I commute nearly every day as long as the roads are clear of ice and snow and the temperature is above or at least close to freezing. Rain, sun, doesn't matter. My cage will sometimes sit unused for nearly a month during the summer or fall.

Well, they get great gas mileage, they're easier to maneuver in traffic and they're allowed in the HOV lanes. What's not to like?

Even in winter, as long as the temps are above freezing, I ride my bike. Cars are OK for bad weather, but I really don't like them.

The green machines they are writing about are electric motorcycles not the gas powered antique tractor hardleys.

Hm.. Nothing in the article about anything other than traditionally-powered motorcycles and scooters. While I'm no fan of cruiser-style bikes (I prefer sportbikes), motorcycles are greener than cars, at least the way cars are typically used here in the 'states.
