They chose to stay in york county. They should have to pay double the taxes. They already got free money they should have to pay it back. When the banks took TARP money they had to pay it back at a high interest rate. So what, they kept 700 jobs in York but screwed hundreds of people plus all of York!!!

Excuse me bonehead, trying to reduce your tax obligation through the legitimate appeal process is not taking a hand-out.

Harley is simply doing what every corporation has done for the last 70 or so years, regardless of which party is in power. Get on the corporate socialist welfare list and let the taxpayer bear the brunt of the costs.

Handout Harley already got millions of dollars in breaks from the state to keep the plant open in York (while outsourcing jobs anyway). Now, they want more breaks for property taxes. Just because they have lawyers and lobbyists to promote your cause does not make it right. The average Joe isn't getting property take breaks. His property value is down too. The difference is he doesn't have money to throw to lawyers to appeal his taxes. Maybe if the state gave him a whopping tax break, he would have the money to do that like Handout Harley.

Let's for a moment talk about General Electric, so you can understand how things work. I won't go into who was a director at such and such time. It gets rather complicated.
Suffice it to say, GE has had a hand in everything from the Bolshevik revolution to arming Hitler in WW II through their German subsidiaries. And those facilities didn't get bombed! GE, like Standard Oil played both sides with enornmous profits.
Fast forward and witness Immelt as head of GE, an international corporation, that has paid zero federal taxes for at least the past two years. Immelt is now Obama's point man for economic development. Huh?
GE, like Standard Oil, realized competition in the business world is a sin.
Eliminate your competitors, insure you have an open ear in DC, and the rest is history. The real expenses fall on taxpayers. The cream is still there for the CEO's and bankers.
Harley isn't quite that smart. Buying MV Agusta wasn't wise. Ducati might have made more sense. But Wall Street would never back HD trying to horn in on Japanese bikes.
Nonetheless, HD understands the new corporate socialist agenda.

Harley is arguing that their property is worth less than what the 2003 Softail plant cost to build - as though the rest of the property, buildings and intersection are worthless. In light of the Governor's pulling of educational funding, this is terrible. Pay your share.
They signed a federal agreement that is enforceable in federal court that they'd clean up. Bankruptcy laws put remediation liability as a priority.
They've been operating and BUILDING on contaminated ground since they bought the property - its allowed. Softail (just again expanded in 2010) is built on the very stuff they say makes the property worthless.
