Our kids as mercenaries

Full story: Asheville Citizen-Times

The Pentagon doesn't talk much about it, but over half of America's presence in Iraq today is made up of mercenaries.

The US military is subservient to our elected civilian leadership. If you want change, then refuse to elect President's who conduct undeclared wars and Congress members who fund such "wars." Then be prepared to send your sons or daughters to war when they are called. There is no cheap path to national security.

Hey, bonuses totaling up to $150,000 are being paid to keep people "in country". There are more contractors in Iraq than military, all paid with tax dollars. Iraq has nothing to do with "national security", nothing!

And about 2/3rds of those contractors are Iraqi's. Of course I guess that part doesn't much matter to you and your bash Bush/Pub agenda.

Interesting and timely advice for president-elect Obama.

Schweich throws doubt on the notion that we have a civilian led government.

The Pentagon is muscling in everywhere. It's time to stop the mission creep.

If you don't know that the Iraqi government gets all of its money directly or indirectly from the US government, then you must have been living under a rock (pun intended) for the last five years.

$10 per day is cheaper than the ammo it would take kill them.

The number of Sunnis being paid is over 100,000. WE have been paying them for almost 2 years, since before the "Surge" started, part of the scam, along with the Sadr truce that was brokered by Iran.$300 per Sunni, per month, that's $30 Million per month for 2 years and into the future. The Iraqi gooberment we installed is hoarding the oil revenue, they have around $100 Billion stashed while WE continue to pay their bills.

CNN just did a new report, today, 28 Dec 08, on the "over 100,000 Sunni insurgents" that we, the USA are paying to not fight US. WE are still funding the phony Iraqi gooberment made up of CIA "informants"/"d efectors" from Saddam's regime, or rather ex-pats while Saddam was in charge. Some of those guys, all living in the Green Zone, are still on the CIA payroll. Saw another report today about Afghanistan, where the Taliban control provinces within 30 miles of Kabul. They control the police, the government, have religious leaders as judges and are imprisoning Afghanis, cutting off hands, tarring folks and charging a tax of 10 percent from citizens, all withing 30 miles of Karzi.

If you'd link those reports you say you read you might, just might restore a little bit of your credibility.

Who am I kidding you can't restore something that never was.

Constantly begging for links and spoon feeding...

There are plenty of baby size bites waiting for you, from me, on the thread --
Barak: Gaza operation will expand as needed

I look forward to your in depth response.

Flippant comments, and shunning your responsibility to digest what you have asked for, is your usual cop out.

So what the article is really saying is that the definition of "mercenary" could be applied to even those in uniform! If you are not willing to call those who put the uniform on and get paid to fight mercenaries, then stop calling Blackwater's professionals mercenaries as well. They ALL have served in the military prior to being hired and have chosen to continue their service in a different format.
