So, I'm in Guitar center last week, looking to possibly buy a Gretsch 5120. While picking at it, a salesguy approaches me to let me know about the "Trade in, Trade up." promotion...you trade in your current gear, and get 15% off the price a anything new. Sounds decent, that's almost $100 off the Gretsch. So, I get to looking around, then go home and get on their site to see what else they may have (because the store only carries 1 model of Gretsch).
Then I see the online ad for the "Trade in, Trade up" promotion, and read some very fine print:
"The following manufacturers are excluded at their request: Adam monitors, AKG, Ampeg, Apogee Duets, Apple, Audix, Bose, Crate, Crown, dbx, Digitech, Edirol, some Epiphone and Gibson, ESP, EVH, Fender, GRETSCH GUITARS, Jackson, JBL, KRK, Lexicon, Mackie, Martin, Mesa Boogie, Peavey, QSC, some Roland and Boss, Shure, Soundcraft, Squier, SWR, Taylor and select Korg, Marshall and Vox."
OK, so Gretsch Guitars are excluded from this promotion...but wait, so is Fender...ALL FENDER, MArshall, Vox, Peavey, Martin, SOME Epi and Gibson...this list looks strangely like it covers just about every brand in stock at my local store.
I don't see PRS on the list, but sadly, my local store just downsized their inventory of PRS guitars. I guess you're safe if you want a Dean, or something. Hell, even Squier is on the list for no discount...
Maybe the guy at the store should have read the exclusions before getting my hopes up...eh, well.
