About 3 months ago I bought a used m-audio oxygen 49 keyboard. I try not to buy too many things used, but it looked like it was in good shape and they told me I would still get the 1-year warranty. I decided to take it home and it worked perfectly. About a week ago it stopped working. I did all the trouble shooting and read all I could online and found no solution.

Here's where it gets ugly.

I took it in to guitar center and told them my problem... they said that after 30 days it was out of their hands and that I need to contact the manufacturer. I talked to Avid and they told me that because I bought used merchandise it wasnt under their warranty!! GC lied to my face and I made the purchase. Avid quoted me a price of $80-$120 dollars to get it fixed, about half of what I paid for the keyboard.

A friend of mine suggested that I buy the same keyboard, new, from GC, go home and replace the new one with my used one and return it. Would that actually work? I know that they have serial numbers and such on them, but does GC actually check, it's not on my receipt. What do you guys think?

I know it sounds kind of sleazy, but GC really f'd me over on this.

Yea dude. Totally do it. GC has it comin and they wont know. The door staff does such a bad job that I know for a FACT they dont catch all wrong serial numbers goin out the door. So even if they noticed they would still think that it was just a wrong serial that got threw. As long as you stick to it. It will fly no problem
