When you Google "Groupon" and "PayPal" you find all kinds of recent stuff about Groupon "increasing the options" for members, but no hard statements about whether they accept PayPal as of this moment.

So, what's the deal?

You're right, Josh. I've had two identity theft cases in the last five years, and both of them happened right after purchases from web sites that did not offer PayPal. I've had no problems with PayPal transactions.
And there's no keylogger malware on my computer to blame it on, either. Whenever I enter critical information like credit card numbers, I use a first-class virtual keyboard that hasn't been cracked. So the info got to the vendor without a problem, but it was stolen at the vendor's location in both instances.
This morning I sent an e-mail to a vendor asking why he didn't offer PayPal. He'll have to wait until he does before he gets an order from me!

Zyggy you are quite obviously a shill. We all use the web for ecommerce everyday with minimal fraud. In fact fraud is at a higher incidence with face to face transactions especially at restaurants when the cards is taken from you to be run out of site by the waiter or stemming from lost cards out in the real world, and in either incidence we as the consumer accept this risk every-time we shop, it is our responsibility. The virtual world is not some scary place riddled with thieves and malcontents. This is only what the large corporations, insurance agencies etc... want us to believe. How else will they sell there services, collect our personal data and restrict our flow of capital in order to cahrge us their 1, 2 and 3 percent accumulative percentage points.

What are you, a psychic? Tell your rationalizations to my bank officer.

Think of how improbable that would be - I come to an inactive, low traffic message board to post fake claims. Get a life, genius.

Tennessee - it figures.

Why would that make him a shill? I complain daily about sites that don't take PayPal, especially Groupon. I do a get paid to site every day for amazon and paypal deposits, and they give you that virtual currency eveyr day for a different groupon deal. i can never participate because i cut up my credit cards *laugh*

i searched "does groupon take paypal?" and this was the 5th result. am i shill? or am i just someone that wants to spend my money on groupon but can't because they are way behind the curve?

*shrug*

I searched "does groupon take paypal" too. I just happen to be a housewife that wants to buy a groupon and have money in paypal because I sold something on ebay. What does that make me?

Groupon should pay me say $8 just to give them my credit card info to buy an ebay $15 gift card.

Oh wait that is exactly what they are doing for the next 29 hours.

I have to agree that I would rather have PayPal to pay for Groupon than my credit card. Someone stole my credit card number (from online somewhere) and not only used it in another state, but actually generated a fake card so they could use it in person at a gas station! I hate having my CC# out there and would much rather use PayPal all the time.(can i say how much i love that i can use paypal to actually buy plane tickets from airlines? wtf? awesome! now if only dmv would take it for my tickets...)

Yep, lots of times I don't have access to my CC , like when goofing on my phone, but I can always use Paypal. I've passed up plenty of Groupons cause my card wasn't handy. And I've had my number stolen on the internet as well, a few thousand racked up at a site I never shopped at the speed of light, so I much prefer Paypal. Groupon probably doesn't want the fees, but I think they would offset this with more buys.

I paid for somthing on GROUPON in November with PAYPAL. When I cancelled due to comments on this FORUM, the money was refunded straight back to paypal. I only wish AMAZON and PLAY would take PAYPAL Now and i'd be a very happy bunny.

I can't find anywhere on the site to choose paypal as a payment option...can you tell me where to find it? I'm scared to click buy until I know I can use it because the payment I have set up as default does not have enough $$ on it to buy the groupon I want...

Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated!

nan, try this.

I've noticed some vendors do NOT show their credit card or PayPal logos up front, and make you jump through hoops in filling out the membership or purchase forms before you can see just which funding sources they accept. I just blasted AMAC, a group like AARP, for not showing these logos on their home page. A week later they e-mail me, saying they take PayPal.

Why did they not make it obvious? Who knows?

You might want to jump through the hoops and persevere until they make you choose your funding source from their list of acceptable cards. It just might include PayPal.

JLB, I take it you have never had your bank account compromised before... if you had, you would not be posting what you did. I too came across this thread because I want to purchase something from Groupon but couldn't find out if they accepted PayPal... My bank account was just emptied out from using my debit card at the grocery store... NO thank you. I will never make another purchase anywhere unless they take paypal of I use cash. Groupon! I agree with the previous comments above. You will get much more business if you start offering paypal as an alternative source of payment.

You all must understand how many scammers use paypal too. Groupon may not want the headache of chargebacks and disputes. Groupon deals with 3rd party vendors which makes it even a more complex situation. As the saying goes.. if its not broke, don't fix it.

Before you make the assumption that paypal was the cream of the crop, be sure to read the real life horror stories (been there myself) at www.paypalwarning.com and www.paypalsucks.com to see what happened when businesses trusted the Paypal platform.. even worse for those who put all their eggs in one basket.. and these were not a bunch of small timers either. To think.. a scammer buys something from you and YOU suffer.

Groupon has proven to be reputable and does not show your full credit card number once entered.. thus the only thing anyone with your Groupon login could do is buy another groupon.. oh and you could just show up and meet them at their seat Lol.. but that alone is far-fetched.

Protect your self more by only doing transactions on computers protected with malware and virus protection. Same goes for your mobile phone and I'd suggest a mobile transaction ONLY as a very last resort.

Have a good day people. Just someone who has used both platforms.

This article kind of clues you in. PayPal and Groupon! are rivals.
Think about it. One let's you buy other companies products through them using a third party card, and collects a fee.
The other lets you use their own virtual card to buy from other companies, and charges a fee.
This business model explains why gas stations in CT charge less if you pay with cash - the merchant doesn't get stuck with the added cost from the credit company.
