Well of course it was deemed lawful, no surprises or prizes for guessing that verdict.
He was unarmed, rumoured to have a gun.

he DID have a gun but chucked it when he saw the police, but they don't know that. They KNEW already he was armed and on his way to KILL someone. They saved a life by shooting him.
