I hope this doesn't mean that GE Employees for the last 15-30 years will be miss out on GE retirement package. I am also hoping that the facilities involved will recognize and honor employees continued service in regards to the individuals vacation and personal business time.

This is in accordance with the recent spinoff news of Consumer Industrial. Over the years me and my fellow employees used to joke about the change in management in and about our plant. We would say "They're rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic again. Well, it looks as if the Titanic just sunk!!!

This is in concern with recent spinoff. This is just another way of getting out of paying severance pay and other fees due employees. The plant will spin off and not be associated with GE so, 6 months notice for closing will not have to be let known, no severance pay or any other money due to employees will be due. Just the shaft.

When he realized that the offshoring of U.S. jobs as supported by most politicians would not allow the average Joe to afford the yearly replacement of igniters from the GE factory in Puerto Rico for XL ranges, he figured a spinoff would reward that quality control and then maybe get the whole economy back on its feet. Maybe electric reactors will save the airline industry.

Our Appliance plant was already slated to close next year. After a week of meetings with benefit "experts," who told us what to expect in our severance packages, we then hear that GE will separate Consumer Industrial and sell the Appliance division (my division). Now we are told it will be a spin-off of all CI instead of a sell. We will still close no matter what. It has left everyone in a state of confusion as to what will happen. If we close before the deal is done, we might get lucky and get the package; if the spin takes place first, I don't know what we will get...but I have an idea! As a 25 year GE employee, I am considering doing something I swore I would never do, "chase the dream," and transfer to another GE plant to finish out my time.

So, they told you they were going to close it, then they are going to spin you off with the rest of us (CI)? I think they will close us all down.

Yes, We were told in a plant line meeting in January that we would close by the 4th quarter of next year. Then, we all heard the announcement of the separation of Appliances and Lighting and the sell of Appliances. This was, to us, the worst possible news, realizing that a sell before the close could cost us all of our closing benefits and even see our pensions sold. Now, as we all know, it looks like it might be a CI spin-off. Our managers all seem to feel better about this as opposed to an outright sell. I am not confident about anything at this point, except that our plant will be closing next year. We are already having a lot of lack of work days now. At my age, 48, with 25 years, I really hate to stop building my pension. I can transfer to another plant right now, but it is a tough call. One thing is certain...all of us are facing a change. It may not help, but I took advantage of tuition reimbursement four years ago and earned my BS in Business Management. Too bad it wasn't engineering! Good luck to all.

We are basically "down" the last two quarters of this year. It's really scary times.
I've thought about just up and quitting with my 32 years pension intact, if they should go to sell us. Many older people could not recoup if they lost their pensions, and the sad part is that many are wanting to believe everything GE is telling them.

G.E could care less about the 55,000 people that have given 30+ years to make them millions of $$. We are just a number to them, so they are trying to find a way to give us all the shaft, cut our wages, insurance, and stop our pensions. They always talked about integrity, they seemed to have lost theirs. I hope the world boycotts General Electric, it's time to stop corporate America.

When I came to GE, I was told that I was "Now part of the GE family" Now we're a disfunctional family. We're being cast off like unwanted dogs. There was a time when "Loyalty" meant something. A lot has changed in thirty years. Thirty Five years ago we thought "Don't trust anyone over thirty". Now, I don't trust anyone UNDER forty five. Way to go GE. Way to go.

Yankee, we at our plant are organizing a committee mainly to get started at some point. I've never tried to organize anything like this before. But, we are not going to wait any longer. They are going to trickle down info in small amounts so they won't upset the masses. If we wait it will be too late, and it may be already. I, for one, am not going down without a fight. We have come too far to lose so much.
