GE changing benefits for Retiree Spouses/Same Sex Partners in 2015

As a retired GE employee (30 years) I feel betrayed by the very company I worked for and to whom I devoted my work life. Yesterday I received a letter in the mail addressed to Dear GE Benefits Participants. It was from John F. Lynch, Senior VP Human Resources, GE. "Effective January 1, 2015, GE will no longer offer post -65 health core benefits to spouses/same-sex partners who are not yet eligible and enrolled in these plans. The Company is taking this action to remain competitive now and into the future, as the cost of health care continues to be a challenge the Company must address."

Although I'm over 65, my wife will be 60 in January, 2015 and ineligible for medical coverage. It's obviously cheaper for GE to pay the penalty instead of continuing the insurance for our spouses and partners. A classic case of what ObamaCare is doing to America. Companies are opting out of providing coverage. What should have happened is effective January 1, 2015, GE will no longer cover medical benefits for anyone's spouse or partner who is not already retired. Instead, "our golden years" are not even more expensive when we try to get affordable healthcare at the age of 60. Get Ready, this will come to your house as well! Makes me ashamed of the way GE has handled this for existing Pensioners. I hope everyone GE employee close to retirement with a spouse/partner reads this and votes to repeal ObamaCare!

Wow,knew it was just a matter of time. DuPont informed their retirees on Medicare that they would be given a sum to purchase their own gap
insurance. Is to take place 1st of 2013 and letting them know now so they can look for insurer while open enrollment going on.

I was employed 31 years and will only be 62 Jan 1, 2015 and will loose my coverage. My retirement papers say that I'am intitled to coverage at post 65, This is just another example of corporate GREED.

I hope the people involved can get together somehow and fight this. It only effects Salaried people now, but look out hourly you'll be next if they get by with this

Yes, This needs to be addressed.
It just is not fair, work hard and all those years, only for this to happen. What a shame.

This attack on the people who built the foundation which has made GE the successful company it is today is not only another example of corporate greed but represents an attack on the very fiber that made this democracy the greatest in history. GE is a company that depends on our government for much of its profits yet ships many jobs overseas and manipulates its income numbers to reduce the amount of income tax it pays.

If we do not fight back now they will continue to reduce benefits for all workers and retirees. It will probably be necessary to look into class action suits by private attorney's as well as request our representatives to initiate an investigation of GE.

Failure to fight back now will just give GE the incentive to further take advantage of its total workforce. A united front is necessary to represent all current and past GE workers in order to insure those that built this company and continue to do so receive the benefits that were promised them.

I know benefits for spouses being cut is bad . but if your a HOMOSEXUAL you can get benefits for your homo lover . something don't seem correct does it? nor does the drastic reduced 2 tier rate giving to newer workers that makes it so they had to leave, to make more $ outside of this greed of a slug of a company . I hope you old guys can keep raping the company in your ridiculous outrageous pay that you make per hour .... I had to quit and leave and go else ware to make more .just simply for the fact I couldn't afford to get to work at my base dam near minimum wage as a skilled worker ...

Wow! Someday you "younger" ones will be the "older" ones. I can't wait until your "younger" ones complain and cry about not getting what you're getting and how you're not entitled to whatever you're entitled to. Let's see how you feel then. I was a "younger" one once and guess what? I didn't complain that I didn't get what they got. Because I knew that they have been there longer and they were eligible for whatever they got. That's how it was. The "younger" ones nowadays feel like they are our equals and deserve things that they haven't put time in for. Ya, it's sad but it is what it is. Like I said...I've been in your shoes and would NEVER EVER take away from the people who worked longer!!!!!!!

I decided a long time ago to never buy another G.E product, one of the reasons was cuz Jeffrey Immelt the CEO of G.E. was appointed by Obama as jobs czar and, shortly after that appointment he sent american jobs to china. I for one, will never buy another G.E. product of any kind...

GE is a failed company as proven by how much shareholder value has been lost in the past few years. The only ones that have done very well for themselves are GE's employees. GE took great financial risks and paid dearly for them. Risk management was not on the agenda for GE and Jeff is still GE's CEO in spite of their downfall..GE is still the Dog of the Dogs of the Dow.

Some of the comments from younger people on here are awful. I was young once and G.E. became Genicom. I worked for G.E. 10 years and Genicom for 13 years before it was sold again. My youth was taken from me by these 2 companys and here I was at age 50 looking for a job. Be glad you have that job and start a saving plan somewhere when your young. And do not draw out on it. I am 61 now and drew out my share when I got laid off. BIG MISTAKE! I only get $115.00 from G.E. and $168.00 from Genicom. Because I didn't ask questions or understand that what I was doing would harm me in my later years.SAve when your young! And quit knocking us older people whom paved the road for you!
