I'm thinking of buying a house in Leeds that I'll use on some weekends and in the summer. I'm not familiar with the area and heard from a few people in town that they would DEFINITELY recommend an alarm system for the house. Is crime on the rise in Leeds? Are burglaries common in the area? Has there been an increase in the last year since the economy has tanked?

my opinion is to Lucy- some people over drmatize stuff like this- I think it's just a random act from a few men that were not making it too great with our tough economy.i know the 3 that were involved and I can remember a time when they would never ever do something like that, u get people moving to the surrounding areas from high crime area and of course they are gonna recruit!!!

I'm sure you're right, Nunya. The economy drives decent people to commit desperate acts sometimes. And times are bad and getting worse by the day. I'm just wondering how common these instances really are in and around the Leeds area. I wouldn't be able to get to my house every weekend and just want to know how common break-ins really. Listen, I have very little of value, but really don't want to have to worry about someone coming in and trashing my house while I'm not there to keep an eye on it.

I haven't spent enough time in the area to have a sense of whether these worries are real or just the talk, what people are saying. You know, rumors.

Yup. That pretty much sums it up. Isolated and planned. Crime in Leeds is basically nonexistent.

that house that was broken into was a crack house, and the people who went in just wanted revenge and money from the guy who's place it was.

Leeds isn't a bad place.
